A Day of Mourning

Many may know me, but even more do not.

I am Alaric Ber Kan Scandoveski. Just a simple and humble space pirate.

Earlier this week, 16 men accomplished something amazing. Of those men, a score belonged to the ‘37th Octopus’ squadron. Within a specific back history, many Caldari military know this squadron, as it was the home and birth place of Jirai Laitanen and Korako Kosakami. Even now, they refuse to use some of the proper term’s or wordings that would go along side this.

Pirates, scum, bastards and godless heathens. Only a simple few of what they would call us. In truth, the name Guristas always has and always will be a better sounding name. So, it is with this I wish to mourn the fallen brethren of the “37th Octopus” squadron and hope that they, in their after times, have but just freedom, and profit.

For now we will mourn their lose.

Until then.

I'll join you in applauding these pilots, although purely on merit of their skill, not for what they stood for. I don't have to agree with what they did in order to acknowledge that.

Still, I'm sure you can find something to honour their memory, take the edge off things. Torture another capsuleer perhaps?

Who says they're dead? They were podded four times before yesterday and, unless you're aware of some change in their clone status, I imagine they're in a cave somewhere debating with Heth where they should blow more lives into the wind.

You morons and your desire for martyrdom....at least you'll all get yourselves killed before too long and "Provists" will just be a bedtime story to show children why fads are dangerous.

Well, since we're discussing skill, it is plenty worth noting that these men and women were trained by the Caldari Navy. Their abilities are products of the State.

Whether they were acting on their own, or through orders from other means. These 9 men will be remembered as what they became. Free men. Something nearly every person within State borders will never know.

I am not a Provist. I disdain being called such a thing. And a cave sir? In truth, they are probably back in Venal currently debating what shenanigans to do next. And Heth is a moronic, tyranical disaster that should have never gained power.

Yes, a good portion of our people are trained by the State military. In this current stage, I am having the main guard within Tama, Tunttaras, and Nourvukaiken. This will be used to help better and manage several colonies, and planetary facilities within Guristas territories in protecting them from Raiders, Cartel, State militaries, and even Sansha Incursions.

I wish not to make these men into martyrs. But to make them example's of our capabilities and the drive to accomplish things that others would say impossible.

For Freedom and Profit.

I'm curious if you have something specific in mind with that last comment or if you're simply taking shots in the dark. Either way you should express your thoughts openly instead of skulking behind snide comments.

...or perhaps you are volunteering?

At any point did you consider that this would not be taken well? What sort of reaction did you expect from this?

Paying tribute to what the majority consider as traitors in a public venue was a stupid move, and glaringly obvious you only do it to try and wave the flag of the Gurista in a vain attempt to give yourself an image you've decided that you'd like to wear this week.

I was thinking of something that happened on the fourth. Was that what you had in mind?

I wasn't even aware the Galaxy gave a **** when a Capsuleer's clone died. Now it warrants an IGS thread?

If anything, the non clones aboard those ships should be listed in memorial. Not men and women who blink and find themselves in the warm glow of medbay lights moments later.

You think I am only siding with them in this one week? You are incorrect sir. I have been supporting the Guristas for more than you have been in a pod. I have flown with many of them, and in some early point's against them. I fully expected flak, and even lashings back from others. I for one only wish to speak out when others will not. If my personal image is tarnished from this, I could care less. Will only make me want to work harder in supporting, and in being what I am.

Then if It would even please you, I will personally write every single person lost. From those ships upon my very own Gila. Name for name. Etched by electro-blade onto the outer hull of the ship. This, will forever be remembered as their memorial. May their souls rest easy.

See, one of the things, the few things, I liked about the Gurista was their antipathy towards Provists.

Finding them, now, cheering on Provists who would have gladly hung them from the nearest yardarm a mere few months ago is just baffling...

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Presumably, space rabbits oppose The State, and whoever is control of It... until they are in control, themselves. That is not entirely unreasonable. One might even call it practical. Moreover, I do not imagine they intend to share control with other corporations in the State's traditional sense - an ideology shared with Provists.

However, yes, the speed at which this political plastique flowed does seem a bit, you know, tacky. Or said another way: "too soon, darlings. Too soon."

Quality Gurista supporters are few and far between in the Independent Capsuleer community in this day and age. Gotta take what you can get I suppose.

I do not support the Provist's or their views, and ways. Need be we "might" seem the same to other's who are outside to how we work, but we prefer our freedom.

We may "work" with them, but please do understand there is always an underlying reason for doing so.

You're trying to cash in on recent drama and supporters of the Provists and it's disrespectful to not only us - people who really see your frankly tactless actions as completely baffling - but also to the people who you're trying to respect, even though they piloted their ships through known space and got their crew, thousands in number, killed. You don't seem to care about them, either. Weird.

You're weird.

I don't care what you think, as long as it's about me.

What in Maker's name?

Provists are extremists and nationalists, and favor a strong, centralized State under their control. Guristas are self-interested criminals and pirates, who profit from chaos. 'Seem the same to others?' Then those others are woefully misinformed. Honestly, this sort of half-baked talk is about as bad as most capsuleers' introductory posts.

Sure, I'll take that you're self-styled Guristas-- but this is only because your alliance and coalition happen to be near Guristas' sovereign space.
