An idea to increase the opportunity for pvp in lowsec..

change the mechanics of sentry guns which are not effected by tracking or signature to something like a missile battery that would be effected by speed and sig. Nothing would ever be immune to the guns and your ship will die but let's make things interesting.

Right now unless you are in a cruiser or above you will die quickly if you engage a neut. The last expansion brought us the warp speed changes so small ships can catch larger ones but with existing gate gun mechanics there is no point in chasing that large neutral ship through low sec to get tackle.

Another scenario, you are in a small ship on a gate looking for a fight and see a neut jump in, you engage and he is forced to fight but he also has help from the missile battery. The guns won't immediately overwhelm the aggressor because of it's small size and speed but it's going to hurt.

I think the damage still needs to be significant but it should not be immediate suicide like it is now if you engage.

I think the point of Sentry guns is to limit the ships you can use to attack players on a gate in lowsec.

Small ships can lock extremely quickly, they can chase down targets very effectively, and open the door to making lowsec much more difficult to traverse. While you can make specialized t3's or hictors with amazing lock times, these are expensive setups that make a lot of other sacrifices to function. My point, I think it is fairly healthy for gate guns to quickly blap frigates on gate.

You could also maybe think about not attacking things as they come througb the gate. I know its a wild concept, but if every neut newbie that stepped into lowsec didnt die instantly on a gate then you might have more going on there instead of it being the wasteland it is now.

how about basing damage application based on sec status? in .4 you wont notcie much of a difference, but in .1 you will see it around where you proposed
