This is an excellent chage, but could you add another UI element next to the search button that when clicked/rolled over will display all of the switches that can be used in the search. I don't think I will be able to remember them all off the top of my head, although in fairness the majority of them are pretty straight forward.

Ta lar.

Better reply:
Honestly, this isn't Google circa 1998. Text-based search keywords are a thing of the past (and also not very user friendly / easy to remember). Add a new window for the extra stuff.

Personally, I very much like the way that Apple implemented filters in iTunes. Add a search type, add a "includes", "is", "is not", "does not include", etc, and then optionally add more filters. It's quite similar to how Sysinternals Microsoft does filters in Process Monitor. TBQH, all search-type queries should be like that IMO.

They did have to remove parts of the station to park the vessel but it all worked out fine in the end.

All 200 of them? On the same station?

about the new neat asset search feature, if we could have a blank toolbar thingy with 10 buttons where we could save our predefined searches and name them(so we dont have to type over and over), like:

My logistic ships : category:ship group:logi

yes I know the commands are remembered, but over time the autofill gets filled with random nonsense we type when were not looking at the screen

so, on-screen-buttans where we bind our search thingies

As for the cargo and containers that has to do with nested database queries (read: lots of DB load) but why it differs from the 3rd party API is something I'll look into. Won't make any promises about that though.

First time doing a search, make a deep search into everything that player owns and cache it on the local computer. Also set a timestamp on all containers (hangars, cargoholds, and so on) on both the server and on the cache. Make the server update its timestamp each time the contents of a container is touched. After that, when doing searches only check if the timestamps differ, if they do, fetch that data from the server, if they don't, just use the local cache.

But still no SMA and corp hangar search for wormholes dwellers.

I"m afraid this is out of scope for what I have been working on but I'll raise the issue.

I dont see much need for it, as far as eve is concerned all items in sma's and hangars in w-space are owned by corporation due to being on pos's.

We are better off using the api\datadumps and setup our own tools to make sense of it. We already need to map our hangars with what tower it is anchored on and wich one it is (we obviously have 6+ hangars per pos)

Simply put I don't think CCP has anywhere near the right data to actualy make something like this work for wormhole dwellers since that is data we create for ourselves and each corp would do it differently.

Now What I would realy like to see CCP spend time on is a corp bookmark API and a IGB function to make warp-to links in the website.
That way I could setup a page where we searched a cached version of the assets, list who owns it, where it is in our structures and have a warpto link to a corp bm so they can easily go find it (or warp to links for where someone lives in the IGB)

(And don't get me wrong ILOVEU for corp bookmarks but could we have more than 200?, Maybe as an extra service from concord at a monthly fee?)

i SECOND topic reply #36:

include, in some way, the search (or exclusion/exclusive) of CONTAINERS.

i'd like to know what shiny things ive missplaced these 2+years

^.^

ninja edit: also, could you make it so when you hold the cursor over a container it shows the m3 used in the container?? might save some hassle during search/re-labeling. i know you guys work hard!!!

So this is what CCP calls usability? How is this even remotely friendly to new players who don't know about metagroups, categories and item groups? What?

What about adding a search interface similar to the one for the contracts?

That is sort of the point. The initial change was to simplify the interface. We don't want to clutter our interface with every conceivable search term in an assortment of tick boxes and drop down menus. When most people don't understand half of the options. Yet we want to allow power users to have access to those options. I agree that more can be done to present players with what options are available and we have plans to improve that.

I totally agree with this. The existence of people who are afraid of typing keywords and learning things shouldn't hold everyone else back from having a powerful search tool.

Most people don't know how to work Google search at more than a very basic level, but the advanced searching stuff is there for those who take the time to learn it.

Also, the minimum size of the asset window can now be a lot smaller.

Need... 50... pixels... more. I mean c'mon there is still plenty of space to cut.

Seems to be pretty powerful extension but can't imagine someone to have so much cluttered assets to need even fraction of available options. But it's so much better than having myriad of input boxes.

When we added the "sort by" options earlier this year we had to expand the minimum width of the assets window and that apparently made some people very sad because they stacked their assets window with some other small windows. So making the minimum size small again will hopefully make those same people happy again - I thought this was very important to mention in the blog Blink

I disagree. It's very tedious doing a complex filter with all the click, click, click, click, click, click, click, scroll, click, click, click. I'd much rather type it it, as it's faster.

I've set up lots of smart playlists in iTunes and while it is a cool feature, I'd rather be able to type it. Also, to nest criteria, you have to control-click, which isn't obvious. As simple as it is to use, I bet it's still considered an "advanced" feature and that the vast majority of users have no idea how to use it.

Come on, you really think you have to be a programmer to understand how this works? I think "computer literate" is the word you're looking for.

I mean, if you want to only find things in Dodixie, type system:dodixie. How complicated is that, really?

As a programmer who specializes in search technology, I was wondering what back-end technology you are using for this, or if it is something completely custom? The syntax is almost Solr like; however, that could just be the front end syntax of course.

This is bloody awesome and made my ****** day alot better. It'll save time as I manage stock orders for the thousands of ships I manage throughout some regions. Trying to sort courier orders and sell orders for a constellation between blueprints and ships was so painful. Thanks!

Being a programer != understanding basic programming.

Everyone who plays eve understands basic programming. Its a sine qua non condition.
