WiS is a gimmick. Sure it may feel new and shiny for a month or two but after having to walk down your hallway, into your quarters, past the never-opening-door, probably down another hallway, then find your friend and sit down, will get really old really fast and won't see much use other than station trading and other things that warrant actually loading the WiS and taking 10 mins to get anywhere.

Being in a coalition that accepts newbros with open arms I can tell you that there are already a lot of new people coming into Eve, but with the niche that is tacked on to this game, nothing that CCP does will get the 100K new players every month that every other new MMO does short of turning this into a Theme Park MMO in the setting of a well known IP that doesn't already have a big multiplayer game.

They had already developed a PvP board game called SecWars in Ambulation. You can argue that it's not spaceships but it would just be obvious/redundant.

In a game about spaceships I like my devs to focus on spaceships and not some board game aiming to make a gimmick relevent P

Have you tried Kerbal Space Program? It's an actual spaceship sandbox

A good start would be to ban about 90% of the trolls who post in this forum. Right now a new person can't even ask for advice here without being bukkake'd by stupidity.

There's a specific forum for new people to ask for advice.

There's just about a specific forum for any question that can be asked in the forum and for the most part, the other forums provide focused discussion.

As a general discussion forum, people should realise that generally anything but a specific topic will be discussed. It's not trolling.

In general, my own view is in agreement with yours.

I don't personally see the excitement in watching a cartoon strip show while downing virtual alcohol in an e-bar. That's not really my thing IRL either. However there does seem to be a large group of people who want to walk around.

What I wouldn't mind though would be the ability to invite other station guests into my CQ that automatically opens up a good quality voice channel.

I meet a lot of people in local, usually as a result of either winning or losing a fight; and it often leads to discussion in local providing or receiving advice, etc.

The ability to just dock up and invite them to CQ and have the system then take care of making voice connection in game would be really good.

At the moment if you want to communicate with someone outside your Corp, you either need to provide TS or mumble details or just work in type (does anyone use EvE Voice?).

Not WiS exactly, but WiS like.

WiS is the worst idea ever for this game, because the Devs had little to NO clue how it would fit into the Eve Univers

I distinctly recall at one fan fest years ago, a Dev being asked what WiS would be used for, hesitantly he said "smuggling" Roll

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the ultimate victim of CCP's "release a little bit now and iterate later" methodology: EVE Online itself.

Originally envisioning EVE as a "science-fiction simulator", CCP knew early on that they didn't have the technology or the resources to complete their grand vision all at once. So they released the spaceship part. For a long time, that's all there was because that's all there could be. Then, when they felt comfortable that EVE was doing well, they began to work on Ambulation.

And now, many years later, there is a quite vocal demographic in EVE who is steadfastly and resolutely devout in their belief that this would-be science-fiction simulator is, in fact, merely a spaceship game - and should either remain so or die. CCP's own way of doing things - whether they could help it or not - has created an environment in which they have to fight against their own customers in order to deliver the product they originally set out to bring forth all those years ago.

Such a pity.

Unfortunately/Fortunately (depending on your point of view) it's not entirely a CCP issue. There has to be leaps and bounds in the community as well. Currently the way to win in most combat, that actually makes an impact in the universe, is to fit a ship according to your FC and then undock and wait to be told what to do. This may be attractive to people who played wow for 6 years but not people who play "action" games.

But CCP is stuck in a dead lock, there best option is to start making EVE 2.

I'll just throw in my suggestion.

I believe finishing WiS needs to be made a priority. Simply having a place to visibly congregate with other EVE players is a fantastic idea, the addition of localized mic feeds would perfect it. This doesn't just appeal to newer players looking to organically find groups to talk to/play with, imagine being able to sit around and chat "in person" with corp mates after a fleet. The addition of being able to take corp photos for instance would be incredible.

On top of the gameplay/social elements WiS could provide, it acts as an excellent means of enticing more people to at least try EVE. Some of our more hard core players take a condescending attitude to more social gamers, but I think bringing in people who just enjoy talking could be a huge boon. Even if they're just sitting in station meeting new people, they're still paying a sub fee, and they're still enjoying the game.

Look at it like a less pointless version of Playstation Home or Second Life, because the social element is backed up by actual gameplay in the form of conventional EVE ship pew, pew.
