Hi,

I'm considering switching back to mac, and the most interesting option is a maxed out 27" iMac. Since the native client seems to be terrible, I'd be installing Bootcamp with Windows 7. If someone has this machine, could you tell some specifics about the performance? ie. frame rate on max settings (HDR, AA), or is even multiboxing possible with adjusted settings?

Cheers.

I don't have the iMac, but currently running bootcamp on my older MacBook '10 (13", GeForce 320m) and can run at almost full graphics (No AA, Shadows, HDR) with a steady FPS of 30.
I can tripplebox with all low at a steady FPS of 30 as well

I have this iMac. I'm not running windows yet, but the client looks pretty great with the graphics turned up. I find that the game tends to freeze in PI when they are at the highest level, but not in any predictable way.

Thanks Thoren!

If it's not too much trouble, could you check the framerate (cmd+f) while running it all maxed out?

Some benchmarks suggest that the 780m should actually be a better card than my current 560Ti.

I wasn't very impressed with the iMac display, it's a narrow-gamut one with only average colour accuracy, but I'm not doing much print these days and sRGB gamut might be just fine. And there's actually a lot of room for even more pixels in 27" size... paging retina. The semi-matte finish was good, much less reflection than in older models.

I missed this part of your OP, but will check it out in a few situations tonight if I get the chance. From what I remember: WiS is probably around 30fps, being in space outside a station that isn't Jita 4-4 is pretty much always 60fps. When there are structures in space and they're close (or there is any kind of cloud effect), it can drop to 15 momentarily.

If you're up for it, there are some posts here about using Wine. I don't have the patience anymore for even Windows, so I doubt I'd ever get that running...

Back home. All high settings at a POS results in 28-60, depending on whether or not you can see structures.

I would just go with BootCamp. It's probably worth it if you're interested in the frame rates.

FYI my video card shows up as NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX.

Look at the wine setup. I really like it and it was simple to setup. Details are in one of the threads in this forum.
