Question about damps

I get that this dont really have anything do with damps but Im going to give an example of what happened to me the other day. So:

Im ned to damps and Im sitting on a gate in my Keres (minor camp). For some reson I was alt-tabbed (beside the point). I get back into the game and Im being locked up by a caracal. I know that ths caracal have a lockrange of 69 km. I start to got out of range while I apply dual targeting range damps and point. Now his lockrange should by now be about 20km.

He locked me at 13km. He lands a volley. From 22-29km he land 2 more volleys and he loses point on me at 28 km. I tried this again on the test server.

Maulus vs caracal.

Caracal 69 km lock and 20km lock when damps are applied.

Carcal lock at 5km. When Maulus burns away and outrange the 20km of the Caracal it takes about 4 seconds for the caracal to lose lock. Problem is a RLM Caracal can get 2 volleys off in that abount of time.

I understand that sending information all over the place across the world and back, will take some time (no i dont know much about these things). But I really dont like this kind of thing, so Id like to know what Im dealing with so that I can absorb it into my way of thinking when dealing with situations like this.

Sensor Boosters
Ionic Field Projectors
Information Warfare OGB
Auto-Targeting Missiles

And lastly- if a missile is fired while a lock exists it will still connect even if the lock is subsequently lost.

If the point was on you at 28km then (mostly likely) the caracal was boosted.

Sry forgot to mention that I saw his KM from the same battlefield. No Sebo, no Ionic, no Auto targeting missiles. OG booster is highly unlikely.

2 volleys him me after I passed 20 km. last one hitting at 30-31km.

And like I said, I tested this on the test server and had the same result. I could fire off volleys for a short time after I passed my maxed lockrange.

OGB fits your story perfectly I'm afraid.

A Caracal under the effects of a booster with an information mindlink has a targeting range of 27.65 km assuming he has max targeting skills and is getting damped twice by a max skilled Keres with meta 4 damps. Missiles in flight will still hit even if the lock is lost before they land. Also the default lock range for a Caracal with max skills is 71.88 km.

Sometimes the animation for modules activating can be slightly behind the actual cycle time of the module, so check the test server again but watch the cycle not the animation and I suspect you will not have your missiles cycle again after you lose lock no matter how many times you try, though an instance where the cycle starts, you lose lock, then the animation happens is quite possible. It's the point where the calculations for the volley are made that is important not when the game decides to show it.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.
