I actually totally follow those rules with a game called MWO. SC Im not even that interested in but I can at least tell its not a scam to steal peoples' money.

Neither was Duke Nukem Forever, it just kinda turned out like a scam when people who pre-ordered had to wait what, 15 years?

If SC isnt out in 15 years, look me up, Ill admit your right.

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Falcon probably shouldn't have given that denial, knowing it would still be there to be read when WoD would inevitably be canned, both because it had the potential to give false hope, and he will no doubt take a slight hit on his credibility for future postings.

If what he said granted Atlanta employees one last good weekend, because he gave them false hope for 2 days, then so be it. You saying that it should cause his rep to drop within the community is you being an insensitive individual with absolutely zero sense of perspective.

Perhaps he should of just said nothing?

Perhaps perhaps perhaps, but anyone in Atlanta that thought they were for sure canned on Monday and then read his words and then felt like it was all good, was not really in sync with their office. If someone really thought they were losing their jobs and then got all excited when they read an EvE Dev try to squelch the 'rumor' mill, then they had thicker wool pulled over their eyes than all of us that really were hoping that WoD MMO was not dead....3 years ago.

Just a few thoughts actually I would like some clarification on if possible:

1) Is this announcement directly related to the R+D writeoff that was detailed in the 2013 financials that are a matter of public record.
2) If that is the case why has it taken so long to come forth.
3) If that is the case then why the announcement on reddit the other day to protect the Atlanta workforce when sufficient time was available to get them prepared and to be fully informed.
4) Is CCP encouraging PLEX inflation to encourage the takeup from promised higher returns to regain some financial traction.

So, last year at Fanfest I asked the guys what they were not getting from CCP that would allow them to finish the project and they said that they got what they needed when they needed it [words to that effect]. There was also no firm date as to when it would be delivered.

My experience in the software business made me feel queasy about their answers. Software projects have deliverables and deadlines. Revenue projections depend on that.

I feel for the people in Atlanta. I have been there, I know what that feels like.

CCP actually disappoints me with this decision. You guys are supposed to be the pros. You are supposed to know where it's headed. You know what the deliverables are, what the deadlines are. You can make projections. If anyone saw this was going nowhere, you knew it a long time ago already. I wonder how much hemming and hawing it has cost to figure out what the best way to announce would be.

And you know: since the cat was out of the bag anyway, you pulled the plug right in time for Fanfest. So that this would not be -the- story at Fanfest and let it steal all your thunder. By the time May 1 rolls around, everybody in fair and fabulous Reykjavik will know the score. You can now neatly contain it in a section about 'what has happened, where are we going?' where Hilmar will tap his chest and say 'mea culpa', and I don't mean this sarcastically because I have a fondness for the man. Such, however, is the nature of the incorporated entity: there are setbacks and opportunities and you have to roll with the punches. You can't be catatonic about stuff going pear shaped.

It is my very fond hope that CCP will do some quality introspection and decide where their true focus should be. EVE is the natural focus point. I don't think EVE is perfect, and I don't expect it ever will be. However, it has such rich potential that there is no reason to assume it can't be the leading space simulator for the foreseeable future, and then I do take into account that some very necessary changes are required *cough*Sov mechanics*cough* *hack*POS-revamp*hack*, but those should be a feature of an all-encompassing vision for a magnificent universe. For my money we have that vision in the leadership of CCP Seagull.

The people scoffing at CCP should consider that no company wants to admit it has failed to deliver on a great promise. Today CCP has made that choice. Whatever else you think about that, there really is no other path than to forge ahead.

I sincerely hope Valkyrie will be the joy and delight that was promised. WoD never really held much appeal to me. I could never really wrap my head around what it means for an undead to die.

Valkyrie though... make it good, CCP.

To the Atlanta team: it wasn't your fault, guys!

To CCP Falcon: everyone who scoffs at a spokesperson has clearly never had do that job themselves.

To CCP worldwide: make -good- choices.

See y'all at Fanfest. Don't cancel anymore projects before I get there.

I love how, with the scent of this fresh corpse in the water, all the sharks come circling to see what giblets can be cut away. "Can we have any of WOD's assets?" "Can we take their clothes?" Very EVE-like. Lol

Just contract it all over to me CCP. kthnx.

But in seriousness, I feel for all those who lost their jobs. And I'm a bit saddened that CCP can't seem to have much success with any of their projects.

Spending other people's money on promises is far, far safer.

So it would seem for the success Chris Roberts is having with his what fourty million?

Right now we don't have any further plans for the WoD IP.

You do realize that just saying that is saying its basically dead yes?

"No plans for it" means you dont intend to develop it, means RIP

You gotta know that even when youre not saying something, youre saying something.

That's such a good point, that if I owned a valued IP, I'd be extremely hesitant to sell it to CCP. I've never gotten into WoD, but I've always known it's around. It's had a following for a very long time. Is CCP where IP goes to die?

Single shard world with perma death and depth of that magnitude as in WoD would be epic. Shame you wasted so much time on butchering it into oblivion. Good that you didn't put CCP Seagul on it, we would have to wait for this announcement another 5 years.

I don't see what everyone is surprised over, CCP has a reputation of making big promises and not delivering on it...look at some of the half-finished expansions they've released that were and are still broken to this day. Just look at Incarna. In the works with big promises and what came of it...nothing. So this doesn't surprise me at all.

Now they'll put all their effort into Oculus and Valkyrie and EVE will continue to stagnate.

As said above.

CCP has a big issue with making plans, working on it for years and then having nothing or very little to show for it.

Seems like somebody needs to go into CCP and
- Rip up all the procedure manuals
- Fire middle managment
- Work out a way to deliver actual product in a reasonable timeframe and then hire prodcuers who can make it happen.
- And dont announce new games/content until its under a year from release and certain..

either that or its the top level who keep changing the goal posts and thats why the projects keep failing..

Also - Can we have walking in stations now please ? otherwise starship citizen is going to take all the eve High sec people.. lol

Hey guys,

As some of you may already be aware from the press release on www.ccpgames.com, the World of Darkness MMO project has been cancelled, effective today, April 14, 2014.

While this is a sad moment for those affected, this puts us in a far stronger position to devote more time and resources to the EVE Universe and our projects therein.

You can read the full press release on our website here, and if you want to discuss it, please do so in this thread to keep discussion focused.

We'll also be answering questions here as and when we can, so please feel free to ask if you have any queries.

Thanks.

Why did you lie and say nothing was going on only a few days or so before this announcement?

"This is nothing more than a rumor with no basis of fact. Hope that's enough of a confirmation for you guys. :)" Roll This is why we dont trust a word you say falcon

Other than that its a shame looked like it could of been half decent, but its CCP so maybe not

Because they think you're stupid. That you're gullible. That you're clueless to your surroundings.

Just another sheep in the herd.

It's not limited to CCP, it's common practice in these bewildering times we live in. Just turn on the news.

Falcon is just another part of the machine. That's all. He knows what he did

I'm a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.
Rupert Murdoch has nothing on CCP.

I'll be toasting to the memory of what has been and what could have been.
Maybe play Wraith again, that game will seem cheerful after these news.

To World of Darkness.
Maybe it was less painful this way?

This really doesn't surprise me though I am bitterly disappointed with it though. Spending 8 years of development on it, all that money you spent, all those years you spend going to the Vampire: The Masquerade events to show of as little as possible about that game just to have it canned? seems a bit much, you should have cancelled this years ago when it was completely obvious this game was never going to get made.

Respect to all those that lost their jobs. What you had created and what little shown off, you did an amazing job and really wanted to see those ultra high quality characters you had made in those awesome environments.

As for CCP? well this is disastrous. You were WAAAAY too focused on trying to get DUST off the ground you completely ignored and shifted the focus right off WOD to DUST which no one ever really wanted, and then made it PlayStation exclusive only, and then restricted our own access to the players playing that game to only a certain selected systems where we cant even really interact with them?

This feels like CCP are feeling the absolute ENORMOUS CASH COW just about to be unleashed with their EVE:VR project on the Oculas Rift and just shifted all focus onto that because that game is highly anticipated to bring in a **** ton of money in the future and put themselves in direct competition with Star Citizen.

This whole situation feels wrong to me. Direction of eve-online I think has suffered massively since 2005 in my opinion and this doesn't improve my view on the situation any better.

They can still sell it among a myriad of other things. His words, as interpreted by me, mean that CCP is still open to many of the options that owning the WoD IP means provides.

When Hilmar looks down from his mountain at everything that has been created and everything that is happening, I wonder what he sees. I wonder what he thinks to himself, in privacy of his mind where there's no need for spin-doctoring or PR or marketing or risk analysis.
