It seemed to be a weird bug.

I sat on grid to the uttindar gate and suddenly there was no traffic.
At the gate with most traffic in the system.

So I warped to the station and there was nothing.

No ships. No sentry turrets. No cans.

People could see me, but I didn't see them!

Scariest bug ever! lol

I've seen that before, and re-logging fixed it.
