Bots are easy to determine. Convo the character.

If the convo is ignored - BOT
If the guy says 'yes, I'm botting' - BOT
If the guy says nothing - BOT
If the guy says 'no' LYING BOT
If the guy engages you in witty conversation - WELL PROGRAMMED BOT

pop anything that ends in BOT.

Is their any other way to see if he is botting?

Since this is technically a crime/against the rules, i thought this would belong here.

Full disclosure - I have an alt account that mines mostly afk while I'm playing other accounts. I even go eat dinner with the family while it just sits there in the belt.

So do the code folks pop the afk guys that are clearly not botting, but most likely doing something like eating dinner, talking to thier wives or what ever?

My impression is you guys just pop mining hulls and made up the whole code thing so you could role play it.

So is my non mining exhumer OK in a belt? Obviously not a bot if not mining. Clarification please.

If they are eating dinner, why are sitting afk at a belt? It takes 2 clicks to dock at a station.

Previously I had a little bit of respect for you as someone who disagreed with the new order and its goals. After reading this post I lost that. Did you really think even the slightest before coming on the official public Eve Forums and telling someone not to report bots? Botters ruin the game for other miners by driving ore prices down, and making what should be a profitable profession into a mindless grind for pennies. Say what you will about gankers targeting AFK or untanked miners, but don't defend people breaking the EULA in a public space.

/end real talk

I'm probably being trolled here, but whatever. Your exhumer is never safe in a belt unless you are at the keyboard to keep it safe. Being code compliant helps with this. I would be willing to provide an additional "exhumer holding service" where I can dock your exhumer up for you when you need to go afk. I only charge 5 mill per hour.

It's actually true Leto. I have some newer accounts that I use the mining guy to pay for while they skill up. (though w/ the plex prices this may not be feasable going forward). I think it's a valid question too.

No I won't do 2 clicks to dock - that's crap. I'm going to finish the roids I'm mining and get back to it when I get back to it. There is an obvious difference between a BOT and a guy that just got called to dinner or went to answer a phone or greet his kids coming in the door (and no I'm not looking to debate the difference - code guys are obvious pros at spotting botters, so they know the difference too)

My question (again) If I'm sitting afk in a belt NOT MINING am I gankable by the code guys?

It's a simple question. I'm not looking for tears or discussion. I just want a code guy (able to speak for the group) to say wether they gank afk miners not mining or not.

Yes you are gankable. We target anyone who is not following the code as laid out on the minerbumping website. The part where people trip up is the definition of bot-aspirant behavior. What you are doing counts. We expect all players in high sec to be taking the same precautions to protect themselves as they would in null sec or low sec. This means using d-scan and watching local for known gankers. Miners are additionally expected to purchase permits, but the permit is not a pass to display bot-aspirant behavior. If you are unable to comply with this, you will have to take your chances in being ganked. Hell even if you do comply you're taking your chances that some other (non-new order) group might see a tasty exhumer in the belt.

Back to the original question. If I were not a new order agent, I personally would give the guy a warning to stop afk mining, and if he continues blow up his ship and check for pod movement. if his pod continues moving back and forth, report him for botting and kick him from the corp. If it doesn't you could pay back part of his loss, but make it clear that he is asking to get ganked.

Since I am a New Order agent, I would skip the warning part, watch the pod to see if I should report him, then pod him, and if he stays in corp repeat the process until he becomes compliant or leaves.

Well, if you aren't there to watch local, you being afk and all, don't be surprised if you come back and find your pod floating in space or, more likely, sitting in whatever station you have selected after getting podded.

Just saying.

Anything can happen when you step away from the keyboard, you know.

Anything at all.

I played AION at launch... which probably explains my outright hatred for bots.
Imagine a game completely infested by them. A game where every single quest location is swarmed by them, to the point you cannot progress, because the bots will target the quest mobs before they even fully spawn.
You get good at spotting them fast, from sheer self preservation. You also learn a lot about what they can and can't do.
My response, in the end, was to go to enemy territory, where I could kill them, and level off of bot gankjng. Which taught me a few more things.

All bots repeat patterns. The bad ones run short ones, the good ones run (very) long ones. They keep repeating the same actions, in the same order, following the same routes, following set coordinates. When killed, they will respawn and head right back to their area of operation, continuing the cycle where they left off.

Some bot programs, the more advanced ones, have programmed combat responses. This can include instant reaction to known predators. In AION, they would try to fight you. They would not be very good at it, but if there were multiple bots running the same programming in an area, they could swamp you. There is, however, no reason why there couldn't be a flight response, which would be more suitable for EVE.

Those same more advanced bot programs will allow random text spouted in chat or responding to incoming tells/whispers/pms, making them harder to detect. Not actually answering in a regular chat, however, is a strong indication something might be up.

Please note that it is entirely possible someone is monitoring their bot or bots, and actually gets to the keyboard from time to time. Just the fact they sometimes answer, does not mean they're not a bot. Watch the patterns, see if they're targeting things in the exact same order in the exact same location. And yes, killing the ship to see if the pod returns to 'mine' might work. I'm afraid the more advanced programs might actually have a check programmed in whether the ship is still there... it never does to underestimate what can be done.

Well, he's either really anti-social or a bot or both. Kill him, kick him. Or kick him and kill him afterwards. Also: what's his name and what is he flying? I might do the killing for you if you contact me ingame if you want to keep your hands clean.

That logic is how you survive on the street, not in the world. At some point you grow up and become a member of society. This however is a game, and cheaters make it less enjoyable for everyone. So have fun and blow that miner to bits.
