Opinions on engine trails

Mine is that they need to be thicker and more opaque. Right now they seem kind of thin, especially compared to the flaming exhaust coming out of the engines. At minimum the opacity would help a little with the zooming out problem, making them thicker would also help.

Further, the exhaust flames don't line up with the trail if zoomed in really close. It only matters from particular angles, but I wonder how much more code it would take to make the exhaust angle match the trail angle, kind of like 'vectored thrust' on RL jets. (Fit the exhaust to the same constraints as the trail...)

Other than that, I'm really happy with them, especially on anything going reasonably fast.

Poorly done IMO. The trails appear to be attached to the ship instead of left behind by the ship. If you take a sharp turn you'll see the ejected trail being dragged around the corner instead of simply remaining where it should.

Ok so far. On the other hand, yesterday I thought I was attacked by blueish laser beams from behind when I got out of warp, lol.

Odyssey: Repacking in POS hangars for modules +1,  but please for other stuff too, especially containers. Make containers openable in POS hangars.

The engine trails are perfect, just like I remember.

I like the concept although I did turn them off quite soon. I agree with the dev who made them that they need to be tweaked but the basic concept and implimentation is there. The only thing they need to do is fiddle with how they are displayed exactly.

They need way more "volume" and colour shading, possibly combined with more than one colour (core of white in the middle surrounded by blue). As it stands they're too "plastic", too shiny, just as all the later graphics effects.

They do look awesome on some ships, but on other ships it just looks tacky and naff.

Some ships with big, fat engine exhausts have pencil-thin engine trails shooting out from the middle of them.

The engine flares on the Thorax (and variants) still look pathetic, with all these little glowing lines coming out of the back that bear no relation to the actual shape of the exhausts. The addition of trails just makes it look even worse. Both the flares and the trails should reflect the shape of the exhausts. THEN it would look awesome.

As someone else has said, the trails themselves don't actually follow the path of the ship, but sort of flick around like a tail or a piece of rope. This can look quite bad. It looks especially crap when you see a ship drop out of warp (sideways, but that's another issue), and the trails wave around in stupid directions as the ship straightens up.

Finally, the trails are too Tron-like. They should fade more gradually, and maybe expand or taper away the further they get from the ship.

they need some tweaks, but otherwise, it's like I'm back to EVE 2006Cool

They need to be tweaked. Both the looks and the algorithm for how they are calculated. As they are now they are moving around way to much when turning.

They're nice, but could be a bit more "diffused" or something (less "laser beam" and more like the flares). Miss my immensely long engine trails of dooooom while warping, but in general glad to see them back and hoping they can get the further tweaks mentioned by their dev.

They are mostly ok, but definitely need further work. They don't really look like trails at times and can look a bit silly on some ships because of the large engine model combined with a tiny sliver of an engine trail coming out. On the whole it's positive change.

A trail coming out of an engine would be a stream of heated gas. Do these look like that? No. They look awful, IMHO. One of the few things about Crucible I don't like, but at least I can turn them off.

They look like something from Tron. Pretty disappointing. The old ones from back in the day were cooler.

Never really missed em so don't really care that they're back.

If I had to choose a world where they exist or do not exist then I'll take em, why not.

If anyone ever looks at you and says,_ "Hold my beer, watch this,"_  you're probably going to want to pay attention.

My opinion?

I'm glad we have the option to turn them off.

In one expansion CCP has made the most attractive changes in the game to date. Giving a real immersive feel when you undock. And at the same time ruin the immersion by turning it into a '70s video arcade game with those trails.
