Why is the mood so different on the forums than in the game?

I have been playing eve for a few months, and other than some people, the community is pretty mature. I have interacted with quite an amount of people from all different parts and sides of the community and they usually act mature, and any hostility/hate is for a valid reason.

But then i came on the forums, it seems like people troll, be hostile towards players for absolutely no reason, lots of immaturity, lots of hate. On some help threads ive posted and read i see people who just comment on how stupid that person must be not to know that, and other similar things akin to that. Almost the complete opposite of the people in-game. Could someone mind explaining this to me?

Forum is a different mini-game.

If EVE were to die, the forum would still prosper.

I think it's mostly just the GD forum section.

General Discussion is like a traffic jam in New York. An open forum for the free exchange of ideas.

It's like orange juice, in game it's all watered out but in forums we're concentrated immaturity etc.

its because you have people making stupid topics. Then they go 'oh I want to talk about this stupid topic.... I see a thread about stupid topic, but mine is better so.." *makes new thread about stupid topic* Then you get ANOTHER person goes "gee, two threads about stupid topic, do I post in one of the other stupid threads? naw i'll make a totally NEW thread!" *yet another thread about the same damn stupid topic*

This is seriously worse then f-ing traffic. Every time I look at the forums I want to bash my damn head into the wall to stop the pain.

I fail to see the correlation, but then again, I have only been to NYC once.

I think the reason you see what you do in the forums, is because all of the smug, bitter, etc. from the game, all joins into this massive wedge in the universe called EvE Online: General Discussion.

I log onto the forums, I grab my spiked bat.

I log into EvE, I have some coffee, station spin, chat up my bros and the locals, then........maybe do something in game.

If I can muster :effort:.

That's just my observations at least.

The 1% rule of internet culture applies.

90% of the people are mere generic players

9% modify existing content.

1% creates content.

We can shoot the idiots in game, unfortunately nobody has invented something that lets us shoot them on the forums.

Although certain players have a reputation for rewarding shitposting with ingame consequences Pirate

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

We have to uphold EVES reputation publicly for CCP. If we don't we'll be overrun by people insisting we be riding ponies or casting spells.

Did you ever leave the noob station?
You have not "interacted" with most of the community if you really believe that.
