The novelty factor with MMOs is over.

They've existed for a very long time now.

People aren't starting a new game to play for the sake of doing so. They're looking for one where they feel they're being rewarded for the amount of time they invest.

As is, a new player can Log in once every 24 hours, for 2 minutes at a time for 2 months straight resulting in a total of 120 minutes of game time, and still be at just about the same level of capability as a new player who logged in every day and spent 6 hours a day for a total of 720 hours of game play.

It's understandable how it's easy to arrive at the conclusion that a new player isn't expected, or even required to play the game. Not a very compelling reason to convince someone to pay $15 a month for what could very well take a year to reach a level to be able to finally start playing the game in a manner that will allow you to fund your game time with your game time and not your dollars.

No, he's trolling and he's obviously doing it right.

buy plex + Character bazzar = I can fly all the things.

But if your currently a college student or "that weird guy" stalking the gaming section at best buy, this game is not for everybody (insert Captain Picard theres the door HERE)

no, training time is fine.

as a newish player myself (less than 1 year) I find that training time very nicely coincides with my personal skill of actually piloting whatever I'm training for.

right now I'm a bit behind, but I blew 3 months of training on PI skills (2 alts and this guy)

If you define 'capability' solely by the number of SP that a character has, you're doing it wrong. Being able to park your character in a particular hull does not automatically make you capable of flying it effectively, especially as pertains to PvP. A new player that spends those hours learning to fit, fly, and fight, is going to drag the other guy with his 120 minutes over the coals the majority of the time.

maybe with SP ... but definitely not in things that matter -- like "not exploding"

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

No they shouldn't, because (thanks to teircide) it doesn't take long at all to go from scratch to "I can fly a t2 tanked meta4 gunns cruiser and be useful" . I know because I made an alt specifically for Red Vs Blue and it was like 2-3 weeks tops.

Nope, a player who has played skill queue online for 2 months will usually get their arse handed to them on a plate by someone who has spent that those 2 months, or less, training their skills, and actually learning how to use their ships and modules effectively.

Book learning vs learning by doing, in practice.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

If they are finding themselves in a 3-4 month gap where they can't manage, then yes, they should stop. And probably examine what they are doing wrong.

You do, however, make an excellent point that OP's argument is nonsense.

Probably alts.

Dumbing down games to let incompetents be "awesome" quickly is never a good thing. The classic example was when wizards did it to old school 3.5 D&D on the advice of some marketing whizzkids. The existing player base all moved en masse to Pathfinder and meanwhile the new players they attracted quit when the novelty wore off.

Pre odyssey scanning was cool, still is but much less so now that its easy.
still having fun (a little less actually now that some of the challenge has gone out of it).
this game excludes the stupid (debatable) and the week willed.
why would ye be unhappy with that?

My god dude, that's how ti always happens, everywhere. In games and real life.

The new 'agitators' come in, see things they don't like (while not even trying to question why those things exist or what bad/previously defeated outcomes those existing things are holding at bay) and try to fix things, only to end up with a situation so crappy that NO ONE likes it.

So the people who were there see it's crappy and leave. And the new folks (who were at 1st dancing in the streets) eventually realize that the salutation is now crappy (after the shine wears off like you said) and they to leave. You end up with a ghost town.

I'd rather EVE not become a Ghost town, but it could is CCP keeps thinking 'lets lower the barriers to entry' without understanding that low barriers do not attract sandbox players (which a sandbox game needs to thrive but who are a minority in gaming and humanity in general), they attract themparkers whose sole reason for existing is killing sandbox games lol.

If you're so great and everyone who wants faster training is stupid, wouldn't more stupid people result in you having more targets to harvest?

You're not new anymore, so any changes to the new player experience has no effect on you other than giving you more people to beat.

Should IBM not have been allowed to invent faster CPU's because 1600mhz was "good enough" 10 years ago?
