Hi there,

I've wondering if 4-5 hulks is the best way moving forward to mine Ice.

I've noticed the Mackinaws have a bonus and just curious if anyone knows straight out which is better when using multiple, I have an orca and freighter so carrying and holding the Ice is np.

Many thanks for taking the time to read.

So here's the basic math (excluding boost, since it will effect both ships equally)

Hulk (T2 harvesters and 2 T2 upgrades, 1 ice rig)
4% reduction in duration per exhumers level (20% maximum)

Total Ice Yield = 3 blocks per 109s
36.33 Seconds per block

Mackinaw (T2 harvesters and 2 T2 upgrades, 1 ice rig)
33.3% reduction in duration (role bonus)
1% reduction in duration per exhumers level (5% maximum)

Total Ice Yield = 2 blocks per 86.5s
43.3 seconds per block

Max Yield with Orca fleet bonus

Here's some data pulled from this recent dev post: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4423358

The Mining Yield Data is listed in "effective strip miners"

Hulk→4.12
Mackinaw→3.81

I will continue to make this an unattractive proposition for them so that the only questions asked here are those /not/ available by searching.

Good luck to you! Many have tried. One additional might fix the problem. I've given up entirely.

the problem with searching for answers to all but the most obvious questions is that you will often get outdated, contradicting results. personally, i have no problem with answering the same questions over and over unless the answer is literally the first result of a google search with the appropriate terms (and not buried in a giant wall of text written in 2007).

I should buy an Ishtar.

Google "Perfect Orca Skills"

Result #4 is EVE-University's Orca Guide. After a quick browse, it seems current.

In this case you can fit a mining ship in EFT and it'll tell you it's yield per minute and thus compare numbers.

Just wanted to say I did do much on google about my posted topic, but I wanted to hear other more experienced peoples opinion just to make sure I'm getting it right and as someone said... when I get a reply today in April 2014, then it tells me that some of the info I got for myself was not correct and some was still relevant.

I haven't learned much about EvE yet, just seems that sometimes things don't seem to be as they appear and I just wondered was there something I missed.

But thanks anyways Loraine Gess for your constructive and most helpful response.

Regards :)

The only other factors that you might want to take into account, are the respective advantages & disadvantages of each when dealing with potential gankers.

You can set the ships up for maximum yield or maximum protection (or something in-between), but there will be trade-offs.

Personally I believe you should thoroughly research where you intend to fly & fit accordingly. losing a multi-million ISK ship for a small increase in yield does not make a lot of sense to me.

Good luck.

Don't listen to downers like SkyMarshaller, yield is god. Use hulks and fit them for max yield.

Where did you say you were mining again?
