Disclaimer: This AAR is as true as I can remember, it has been verified by Blood Union to not contain any major errors. Oh and I love w-space, where everything can change in a split-second, from 0 to 100 and leave you spinning.

Just a few nights ago Blood Union rolled into us from a C5 C5 magnetar which appeared to be a temp ops base. Funnily enough only a couple nights before I lost a brutix to them outside what appeared to be their home magnetar C5 C5 while diving for pew through low sec.

We discovered the wormhole relatively quickly and watched it closely while I quickly scouted the system. They rolled the wormhole and while I saw the only scout we had seen return, we had absolutely no guarantee another scout had not entered and remained after we watched the wormhole shudder closed.

But things always happen in threes right?

Fast forward to last night. Was pretty quiet with a lot of people choosing to go to bed early and get some rest. We were just chatting **** on comms while I scanned and scouted the chain. I remember commenting as we waited for downtime about how relaxing my night was, feet up on the desk leaned back in my chair. I had found no-one for us to shoot, but this is not unusual in our timezone. We debated doing a couple sites after downtime, with opinion leading towards no. However we decided to see who turned up and make the decision then.

Downtime came and went and a couple extra people logged on, so we decided to just run a couple as I expected us to be moving soon. We aren’t exactly a big corporation and evictions are just run of the course eventually and we had been in this hole coming up to 4 weeks.

We double-checked wormhole security and made sure we had all the appropriate pilots ready. The first site went perfectly and we were getting ready to warp in the noctii to clean up the wrecks and move on. I hit D-scan again to see a sabre with all too familiar tags. I quickly evaluated our situation - 2x moros, 1 nag, 2 archons and 3 tech 3s in site. All with very limited pilots online.

This was not perfect, but I never really planned on it happening in a perfect situation. The stage was set and it was all or nothing.

The sabre landed as I started calling commands I have practiced all too many times in my head.

“Tackle the sabre”
"Dreads refit full tank"
"Sub-capitals get back in close"
"Check siege/triage levels"
"Additional cap pilots get back to POS when you can"

Someone mentioned our out of game contact service and I asked one of the guys to quickly put out a message. I knew it was late, but every extra pilot would give us more tackle.

Then Blood Union landed.
2x Naglfars.
1x Nidhogger
5-10 tech 3s (IIRC)
1x phobos

Their dreads sieged as I called the second naglfar to land primary. Their damage started on my moros. I had been first dread for the site so I had been expecting to be their primary. While refitting for tank I had popped a blue pill.

Then I made the call after doing a quick check of their position vs ours, the bubble and our POS.
“All dreads log on and warp to Hagen Ra"

I am not here claiming to be good, not even mediocre. I have been dropped by Blood Union once before and evicted by those that claimed to be alts (not casting dispersions I have no proof either way). We were stomped that time. Stomped so hard, my face still hurts from being pushed into the ground.

But as the saying goes, fool me once …

So since that incident I have spent a fair amount of time learning everything I can about them. I have watched videos of their previous drops, read the reports, examined the fits of their capitals that have been destroyed, and playing with EFT. Luckily this coincides with my habit of reading/watching everything I can that has anything to do with wormholes. Have I mentioned I love w-space yet?

Blood Union is a constant threat in C5/6s to any small-medium entity (even some of the largest ones have not gone untouched). I respect them for that and I love what they do. However that doesn’t mean I intended to just let it happen to me and mine.

When someone new to w-space asks “Who are Blood Union?”
My answer has been “The boogie monster of w-space, except they really are under your bed waiting.” (Not sure if this will translate well culturally).

I knew the EFT numbers, we had even done some practicing. But all of that wouldn’t matter if we couldn’t make it work when it counted.

Two extra moros logged on and were in warp to the fight as soon as their feet touched the ground at the POS. There was no question from those of our pilots that were relatively new to pvp, especially wormhole capital pvp. They were following commands to the best of their ability all without any hesitation. While this may sound basic to some of you, everyone has to learn somewhere and it made me smile.

Despite being at around 30-40% cap when they landed, my moros was tanking the two nags. However my shields were getting low with my cap following as I was not trying to conserve it. The big blasters had not stopped firing since Blood Union had landed. I had overshot my siege cycle from the site. So when they had landed I was already a quarter way through. This worked out for the best as I coasted out as my shields touched armor. Called the archons to feed cap as I exited siege. With both triaged archons feeding the big moros cap, it was back up to full quickly.

I was a bit too eager to re-enter siege and pressed siege as chunks of the moros armor were still being blasted away by the naglfars autocannons. However I knew the numbers and was confident (hopeful) that my shield booster wouldn’t let me down.

While all this was happening our other dreads were doing their job, their dps pushing the primary into low shields. With his reps pulling back less and less. Our subcaps were having a horrible time being subjected to almost all the ewar Blood Union had. I figured we had spent enough time shooting the naglfar, so I called all dreads to switch to the Blood Union nidhogger. The primary naglfar warped away in armor as our dps switched, our points having been jammed off. The combined dps was too much for the nidhogger and it exploded. It was about now that I finally managed to get my HIC pilot on and into warp, as my moros shields were back up nicely and now only tanking one nag his cap was holding well.

It was here that Blood Union showed their mettle, where most would try and save what they could. Most of their subcaps stayed on grid to assist their remaining nag leave the field.

I put my bubble up and they forced it down as our primary archon pilot informed me it was nearing half armor, I caught reps and threw it back up again. Our dps was focused and the remaining nag was dropping. My bubble went down again, checking later showed that the slot had somehow set itself to autorepeat off or maybe I had and forgotten, just as our legion called that he was jammed. Their second naglfar entered warp with less than 30% structure. Our subcaps caught their jamgu as the nag left field. With webs and paints, their jamgu popped with our nag dealing the majority of the damage.

I quickly switched toons to my scout and dropped combat probes. They had a 15 min pvp timer and I wanted to find them.

GF was put in local.
Followed by this message upon seeing my combat probes.
"If you don't stop following us, we will be back : )”

I did actually consider stopping, however I asked myself “would they?” Besides I had never probe hunted capitals that were actively trying to avoid being caught. Figured I could use the practice.

So I scanned and started warping around. Anytime I landed on them they were already aligned and warped away. I tried a variety of tricks, including squad warping around my HIC but I couldn't manage to get on top of them in time. Capital slow warp speed meant at times as I was landing less than 4000km away from them as they landed, one time was 1500km! A couple times I got my HIC to land just as they entered warp.

Their timers ran out and we returned to the site, warping in the noctis to salvage.

We then took the time to look at the killmails;

A few more lessons learnt, courtesy of Blood Union. I am positive we won’t come off half as well next time, but just another reason I love wormholes.

Blood Union comment: That fight just showed to all carebears that proper preparation, EFT games, proper fitting and mind set are the counters to us. Not just simply whining that it isn’t cool to kill PvE caps with PvP dreads.

TL;DR – GF Blood Union.

' feet up on the desk leaned back in my chair' might have been a bit premature.

Great read. Didn't realize Noctii was the plural until now :).

Great read. I still check under my bed for blood union before I go to sleep at night. My wife thinks it strange.

In hindsight it was definitely premature.

Yeah I wasn't sure about noctii.

It is like sheep, which is both the plural and singular? It sounded alright so I figured I would just go with it.

Not really.

Sheep don't fly but have sexes (plural).

A salvaging ship (singular) doesn't.

Awesome story and time taken to write it 10/10.

nice report, very informative, easy to read. If u could find daily content in ur w-space life i would advise to start a blog or smth like this. Most of the actual wspace bloggers write for pretty newb people, while a bit more experienced suffer of lack of good reading. so again, gj with a fight and AAR.
PS: if u think where to find a good fight for next report, just let us knowTwisted

Nice write up.

Did they really try threaten you in order to stop you from hunting them? Talk about a pansy move...

PS: I recommend storing a long point in your dreads for this situation since it can't be jammed off ;)

We did not. That's sad but our movie maker logged few windows and didn't want to risk to have a spikes or smth during fight.
