o, just throwing something out there, how would anyone feel about a Sins fo a Solar EMpire style EVE single-player game, with the option of anyone who purchased it who holds director/ceo roles to use it as a glorified Empire management in EVE (basically seeing all the systems on the map they have sov in, and queueing things up for construction for the logistics guys, or pinging fleets to form/move and being able to issue orders to the FC from their RTS view of the sovmap).

I dont know, thought it would be cool. even just an EVE rts would be cool.

For some reason every Eve RTS thread gets locked so good luck here. I believe it would be a great idea personally. For one I love a good RTS game and since Homeworld everything done has been mediocre at best. Sins of the Solar Empire etc are shadows of what an RTS should be. There are many reasons an RTS would be a good idea.

1. Eve has a rich lore history pre-capsuleer. We always want new players to get involved in Eve online and it is possible that a good RTS (sort of Homeworld style) would introduce people into Eve online in a non-aggressive way. Tell the story of the rise of the various empires.
i. The beginnings of the Amar empire conquering vast stretches of space with all the ships in their glory.
ii. The rise of the Caldari empire.
iii. The Rise of the Gallente Empire.
iv. Even the uprising of the Minmatar republic.
All of this would introduce people to the lore and history of Eve online, and the lore is fantastic and vast.

2. Make the ships able to be edited, i.e. different weapons systems etc. The modeling has already been done and the ability to rotate the camera like Homeworld is already there.

3. There could be missions that introduce the player to various Eve online careers, yes even the miner.

The thing is that a good RTS may lead many to want to explore the Eve Online universe by playing Eve. With the release coming up of Homeworld and Homeworld2 in HD with the possibility of a new game in the franchise there is obviously a huge demand in the market still for a decent space RTS again. I love Eve online and I love a good RTS so why not combine the two. I am not sure why these topics continue to get locked, but the fact that there are threads devoted to this subject shows a desire for people to want to play it.

Just imagine building a fleet similar to what was available in Homeworld but Eve. Frigates, Cruisers, destroyers, battleships, carriers, etc. With the graphics of the Eve universe and all of its ships in their glory revealed to the uninitiated. Since DUST is not and may never be on PC why not create something that PC gamers can play that will introduce them to Eve online.

Why don't you just FC a fleet?

Things are only impossible until they are not.

FCing a fleet is not the point here to me. I love Eve but an RTS would add another avenue to possible draw people into the Eve universe. I enjoy a good RTS from time to time just to relax.

I can see the merit in the idea but I for one hope that it doesn't gain any widespread support.

I am fed up of CCP working on things that are not Eve. I wouldn't mind but not one side project from CCP has successfully paid the bills.

Meanwhile all we get is rebalancing and deployable modules. We haven't had a proper expansion in years.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

TBF..... there is some serious re-balance work that needs to be done before some stuff can be expanded... POS's, for instance.

I'd honestly rather see this not affect EvE though I would like to see the product. Especially since this would either be free to play or a one time purchase?

QFT. When they spread rebalancing a couple of hundred ships over multiple years this seems a bit hopeful.

Eve RTS, yes. It shouldn't have any bearing over the Eve universe though IMO.

Like mentioned in an earlier reply: http://www.moddb.com/mods/eve-rts exists for the very good HW2.

I think it could be updated on, expanded, and end up being very successful if CCP or some other entity were to pursue an Eve based RTS.

If there was a good Eve RTS, or even a mediocre one, the developer would likely get whatever money I have that doesn't already go into Eve.

CCP already seems to have plans to add RTS-like interface elements for the purpose of fleet warfare, judging by a fanfest video from a few years back.
