Small Industry POS - What should I give it?

So me and some friends are interested in manufacturing ships, from frigates to battleships, in a small pos in hisec. We need to be able to refine ore and research and use blueprints(don't want to wait on any industry option a station has to offer).

Does anyone have the pos equivalent of a "fitting" or at least suggestions? I have no idea how many of each item from each category I need to buy and set up for this goal.

For ships, station manufacturing lines may well be easier, there are areas in EVE where the station manufacturing lines always have space. Otherwise you'll find the entire POS taken up by the various size ship manufacturing arrays and maintenance array without much (any) room for labs, if the ship manufacturing arrays will even fit in a small POS which I doubt. Also T2 ships are more expensive to build in a POS than a station.

At the moment, refining at a POS is pointless. After the planned summer changes that will change, but at the moment there's no reason at all to refine in a POS unless you like discarding 25% of your minerals

Most industry/research POS' are Caldari due to most cpu.

There is plenty of threads/resources out there for you to use.

Good answer .
Furthermore i would advice at least a medium or large (Caldari or Faction) pos

I have good reason to build ships, not just to sell lol

And I think I'll end up using a station instead. We found a quiet system we can work from, although this information has been helpful for if we intend on making one in the future. Thank you all for your input. Smile

if you want to blow them up you are still better of making the actually good stuff to sell it.

Well some of them will be for our own personal use, some will be for selling, etc.

It is always more profitable to build and sell the thing that makes the most money and buy your own ships

Change your attitude before you get into manufacturing, or wither and die as another "The minerals I mine are free" backwater

This. Absolutely this.

So, let's say you're building some cruiser that costs 9M in minerals, and spits out a cruiser that costs 10M. You fly the cruiser around a bit and it gets blown up. Whatever, it cost you 1M less than it should have, right?

Well, that's all good on the surface. But think about it a bit more.

That saved you 1M, yes, but it took, say, 3 hours to build. So it saved you 333,333.33 ISK per hour it took to build, right? But what if we could use the same production slot to build drones that makes 500,000 ISK per hour? Well, then in the same amount of time we'd have 1.5M, and we could get the exact same fun out of flying and losing the cruiser, AND be 500,000 ISK ahead of the initial plan. Do that long enough and you'll be able to get a whole cruiser for "free" (not really, but whatever). What if we're producing 10 cruisers (or 10 drones) at once? Then that's a difference of 3.3M per hour vs 5M per hour, or 1.7M per hour, which can and will build up pretty quickly. That's 40.8M per day, or enough to PLEX your account and still have a lot to spare- while being able to afford flying around and blowing up cruisers.

Just fyi to the OP, if I see a small POS with manufacturing modules anchored, I dec the owner. And that POS WILL die. You simply cannot anchor enough defenses on a small tower to slow me down. The best defense is to make yourself not look like a target. Manufacturing in a small POS screams "SHOOT ME!"

Lol Wardec happens, unanchor pos, have entire thing packaged and stored in a station in under an hour or less before wardec even starts. Just wait you out.

Boom, you wasted 50 mil, have a nice day.

Cool

And you just destroyed all the materials that went into the manufacturing jobs you had in the POS. There's a very good chance you did significantly more than 50 mill in damage to yourself. And I'm OK with that. So no, I would not consider that 50 mill wasted, I would consider that a victory, and I didn't even have to fire a shot (so I saved money on ammo).

Obviously the problem is much less severe for research pos' so those you can unanchor and it will be a little disappointing to me, but that's all.

Lol I wasn't intending on paying for any of those resources(the only thing I'd care about are the structures), so it was entirely expendable. I find it humorous that you think I care xD

Nice thing, though, is I found an alternative, so I won't be needing this pos in Hisec.

Just to be clear, I was not threatening to attack you, I have so many targets to shoot at it's actually sad.

No, it was simply a warning, don't manufacture in a small POS, use at least a medium, large if you can.

As far as you getting the materials for free, please share your secrets. If you feel that mining the materials makes them 'free' then let me remind you of the Ferengi rules of Acquisition : Time, like latinum (read isk), is a highly limited commodity. -DS9: "Bar Association"

If I destroy minerals, it makes no difference to me if you bought them or mined them, the result is the same.

And Mr Grib, I am very interested in your abundant targets. Are these mostly highsec? Do you just scout about for vulnerable looking POS etc?
