This, except in Russian. An alt of mine has a name in Russian and I get people trying to speak to me in Russian every single day. I'd pay a PLEX or 2 to change his name to IDON'TF*CKINGSPEAKRUSSIAN.

No. You made a sht choice at some point that led you to desire a rename. That choice could have been as simple as choosing a poor name or something more nuanced like scamming and stealing.

Either way, deal with it.

Several dev's have said this won't happen, but then again that was a few years ago. Because name = reputation. And that is kinda what sticks with you in eve. So I hope this never happens

What if we did allow a name change but also include an entry in a characters employment history. This will allow players to rename their characters (especially useful for bought character with awkward names) but will not allow people to awox and get away with it.

PS. 2 PLEX is easily affordable when you just robbed a corporation ;)

Do you know who's going to inherit New Eden? Arms dealers. Because everyone else is too busy killing each other.

How would this affect kill boards? Would they be able to keep track of the artist formally known as puff daddy, formally known as diddy, formally known as p diddy, currently known as puff daddy again. Or would it break the internet?

Essentially even after renaming your character the previous name would still show in the character history.

Was wondering if this is still being discussed at all at CCP HQ?

This is one of the items I've been bringing up in my CSM campaign...

This isn't game breaking, and GMs change naughty names all the time. So it's doable...!

Yes it is doable and also exploitable.

The lore a pilot creates should stay with that pilot and that person should have to deal with the consequences of what they built even if they are trying to sell that pilot and no one wants it because of its crappy reputation.

One of the great things about Eve was the ability to make a name for yourself in a single universe. Allowing a name change that did not allow for easy tracking of old char names would be very bad for the game.

Can you imagine how many players would just start robbing their corp, taking the loot, buying a plex for name change and moving on to the next corp? I would guess as many as 15% of the player base would unsub as a result of untrackable name changes in the first 6 months of it going live due to the astronomical increase in corp theft and awoxing this change would promote.

I don't think anyone suggested not making name changes traceable.

I think being able to change your name is a good idea, everyone deserves a good name like Bunnie Smile I would think anything that adds more movement of Plex on the market would benefit everyone as well.

Before Serenity was established I rolled a character using the Achura race soon after they appeared and picked the name off a chinese name generator. Around the same time EVE was introduced in China and that new alt got tons of chat requests by chinese players throwing weird symbols at me. Aparently the name was so authentic that chinese players assumed me to be one of them.
So I went to the chinese help channel and asked if someone could translate "I don't speak chinese, please visit the chinese halp chnnel" and instructions how to do that into weird symbols. Someone did, I pasted that into her bio and the messages stopped.

Of course I could only hope that no one had feed me some racial slurs in those weird symbols - but whatever the text translated to, it worked.

Lol? Lol

Hey man let me show you word 'alt'. Have you ever wondered what these 2 empty placeholders on the right of box with your name and picture in game launcher are for?
You know: you can make NEW ALTShocked And this will be 'another' you! Cool

(and let me add that you can biomass alt when it is no more needed)

This character was named after an ex of mine that had just dumped me at the time. I was planning to go pirating with her and get a laugh out of people cursing at an extension of a woman I loathed at that time. Pirating never happened due to the people I made friends with while skilling up, but in the first months the name caused some bad moments. Grown out of that by now though, but then I would have gladly changed it.

'Pak' apparently means 'uncle' in some Asian languages (I had no idea, I just rolled a name when I signed up). My first corp when i was 10 days old picked me up assuming I too originated from the Asian pacific.

I didn't realise that my character's surname was also the name of a villain in a popular series of books for children.

Now I get people shouting "Expelliarmus!" at me, in the hopes of offlining my guns.
