Ship Security... and why would anyone leave their house unlocked?

Ok.. I get it... we all love being able to steal other peoples items and ships in game but let's face it. Even in the future if you built something that cost you a billion ISK you would probably at least have a basic lock on it.

How about ship security for any unpiloted ship... including those in hangars accessible by others. If you choose to enable security lockout your ship is protected by a combination code (heck even the Starship Reliant had it in Star Trek II).

Use the hacking skill...and have some kind of ship hacking device for those that still want to steal ships and give them some percentage chance of doing so but at least give us honest and decent citizens of EVE who really want to grow corporations and alliances a better chance of protecting our assets. This would at least slow down the random guy always joining some corp...and then makes away with anything he can.

I can't believe anyone would reasonably think starships in some theoretical future you could just walk right into and fly them away. Only when the human (and other) races all become 100% honest (never happen) would someone not put a lock on their assets.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it fits with the lore of how ships interact with capsuleers/pods

Reliant was protected by a 5 digit code, maybe not a good example.

As for your idea, well CCP has marketed being able to scam and steal as gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGplrpWvz0I

It isn't about realism, it is about good gameplay. Being able to steal people's stuff is good gameplay. Besides, last I checked, nobody can steal from your personal hanger, only from corporate and public ones.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Interesting. Maybe it could be a module fitted to the ship before you eject which allows you to set a password as you do for POS shields.

Edit: but make it expensive.

Zappity's Adventures for a taste of lowsec and nullsec.

I approve. Adding this would make sharing Pos so much easier. There is the argument being able to steal is good and i agree. But its not exactly hard or noteworthy to join a corp and just empty the hangars you have access too.

It could provide a good additional use for the hacking mechanic (provided they get rid of that awful minigame)
