A while ago there was a post regarding PLEX (or 2) for a character rename.

If I remember correctly a few devs also posted on the thread not dismissing the idea.

Essentially even after renaming your character the previous name would still show in the character history.

Was wondering if this is still being discussed at all at CCP HQ?

I can think of worse things to spend dev time on.

But only after a few minutes browsing F&I.

If this is ensured, then I don't see a problem with it.

Iirc, the main problem was figuring out a way to retain and present a list of aliases, and make it easily searchable so you can always check the history of the character.

Only reason why people would want to change their names in EVE are:

1) you're a known corp thief and even idiots know about your name by now.
2) you're on everyone watch list
3) you're such an a-hole that you have to change your name to get anything done with others, until they realise who you are of c.
4) you think that your new name would be so cooool and edgy that you just 'gotta hav it'.
5) you need to scam someone.
6) you like running around jita in a shuttle with 60+ PLEX in cargo, too bad that those bad pirate people know that as well.
7) you played for 7 years and only just now you realised that your name is incredibly stupid.
8) all the Finns hail you with moon-language and "duel" you in null because you took the name of "Raimo" or equivalent contemporary Finnish name.

9) none of the above are valid reasons to change your name.
10) any other reason you would like to change your name in EVE ?

The absence of denial isn't acceptance of an idea either.

And here in lays the rub. People do not check the information given as it is and so these things happen. As a Goonwaffe recruiter I have a system of checks and balances to always do what we can to root out spies and awoxers in the recruitment process.

"Consequences" in EVE are an illusion and driven by marketing hype. There are no lasting, meaningful consequences.

There are many ways to allow name changes in a way that still pleases the "consequence" crowd. The most simple would be to have a name history similar to corp history. You could even have that history be searchable so searching for posts by Markku Laaksonen will also pull up whatever I change my to (or changed it from). Have it be accessible via API when a recruiter is looking at a new recruit's info.

Especially when buying a new character, have a clearly displayed note that the character was transferred, and a name change took place by the purchaser.
