We need to talk about the ship models of EVE online. Just a casual discussion. For the record, I do not advocate remodelling anything, but I don't have a problem with any changes that CCP decide to make to the models. I like them all to be perfectly honest, even the ugly ones. Honestly, why does every ship in sci fi have to be a gorgeous work of art? But no, whether ship models need to be changed or not, whether they are beautiful or ugly, is not what this thread is about. I want to have a little fun with them...

This is about, what do EVE ships look like to you? What do you think the inspiration is behind them?

I'll begin by saying that I think the Bantam looks like a Hoover had a deformed baby with a Caracal.

Well, the Domi is quite clearly a potato... or a shoe.

Also, the Thorax is quite clearly a ******* *****.

The Thrasher is a hornet or a wasp or something. It's not a dog.

I dunno.... the solar panels on the sides spread out like frills kinda remind me of this.

Yeah, I've always seen the Thrasher as a fish or shark

I like the Stabber, Thorax, the Rokh and the Naglfar. The Avatar and the Hyperion aren't my thing at all and the Myrmidon reminds me too much of a hugging bird. :\

Most of the ships seem to be inspired from wild life with a few exceptions from sci-fi movies like the taranis/ares looking like a predator (movie)

The Cormorant is an ant. A vicious killer ant. The kind that will bite your foot off if you try to squash it!

Which is odd, since it's named after a bird. A pair of cormorants live in my backyard. Very interesting predators. They swim underwater and capture fish, which they then swallow whole. They'll sit on the branches of my willow tree (overhanging the river bank) and spread their wings to dry out. Imagine being a bird and beating a fish on its home court...underwater.

So...why an ant? Don't get me wrong. I love the ship's design. One of my favorites. And, as lethal to fish as a cormorant can be, there are ants that are just horrifying if you happen to step in the wrong place. I guess The Ant isn't really that terrifying.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

I always thought that the Slasher looked like an insect. A nasty, buzzing, stinging kind.

The Moa is clearly a Goose with a briefcase.

The Golem is a winged Platypus with a jousting lance.

The Thorax is obviously a giant.....well....

The Dominix is Space potato.

The Drake is a Spanish roofing tile....with missiles.

The Iterons....see Thorax.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

My favorites are (and some have been mentioned already).

  • The Nidhoggur is a rooftop flying in space
  • The Moa is a dinosaur carrying a briefcase
  • The Dominix is a giant space potato
  • The Dramiel (and arguably the Executioner and Daredevil too) reminds me of a Cylon raider
  • The Fenrir is obviously a Sandcrawler in space
  • The Providence is the GR-75 Medium Transport from Star Wars.
  • The Rokh is an AR rifle rail.
  • The Oracle is the head of the Xeno in Alien.
  • The Drake reminds me of the Sea Shadow U.S. military stealth vessel, a similar boat also seen in the Bond movie Die Another Day.
  • The Cyclone reminds me of a locomotive with a huge headlight.
  • The Rupture reminds me of the old pirate ship Black Pearl but without the sails.
  • The Incursus looks like it's holding a huge jousting lance, alternatively one of those refueling things on aircraft.
  • The Avatar looks like a male sex toy, or a giant mushroom.
  • The Nyx kinda reminds me of the Millennium Falcon.

So yeah, those are the ones that come to mind.
