Was in a mission, the salvage ninja warps in, is flying around doing his thing, I lose "aggro" on the rats and suddenly he's in a capsule.

karma

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

Ninja salvaging was on the way out the moment it because possible to abandon all wrecks.

You see, most of the nina-salvaging was about aggro fu, not actually about taking someone' stuff. They acted like it was, part of the "blame the victim" while acting all coy and innocent about it.

When players were able to blue the wrecks, you'd think that crowd would flourish, if that was what they really wanted. Turned out that community lied the entire time. Go figure.

It was getting out of hand though, and once again a mechanic gamed to "get tears" (the alliance around it was called TEARS and the too got off on sharing hate mails, rage, etc) was wrecked but at least it was done in a manner that really put an end to it instead of someone getting banned and giving them something to complain about.

Then came miner-bumping but that's just a 100 percent coincidence of course.

Before anybody gets mad and says "oh someone took your loot!", nobody ever got my loot. Once in a mission room someone came in. It was a drone mission. They left disappointed. But as I got to using T2 modules more I started to loot less and now when I want to run missions (when slamming my willie in the door is not exciting enough I guess) I join the Free Wrecks channel or bring a salvaing noob along - for them it's a fortune but for bitter vets it's a time sink.

True. But I remember when salvaging my missions in a destroyer (4 tractors, 4 salvagers) was more fun than the shooting part of the mission.
Then I took a break for a while, came back to Eve and didn't touch missions. I've used the MTU in wormholes, so I know that the loot/salvage part of missions won't be fun any more. Not with that sucking all the fun out of it.

Herzog, you need some tape for that tinfoil?

The reason ninja salvaging was a thing for so long is because in the past, more people blitzed missions than they do today. Frequently one would see entire systems filled with wrecks, because it was not time efficient to loot and salvage. It still isn't, but for one thing...

The MTU, which basically killed the profession. And I say "profession", but it was a mini profession anyway, one not really supported with skills like researcher and such.

you forgot to mention few more things:
- there was not option to make wrecks blue if you don't need it, make bookmarks and drop them in can named 'free lvl4 loot' next to station (as i did many times)

or

- there was not possible to just convo person and ask his permission to loot his wrecks.... (as people asked in local many times)

So yes, ninja salvaging was never about baiting mission runnerRoll

Ninja salvaging in one of *the* entry level professions for the creative people.

New players are able to realize "Hey wtf! I can warp to a missions and STEAL HIS STUFF!".

And then do it.

And now ... instead of "Suddenly Ninjas" we have "Pro Synergy".

What have we done ...

As we don't know his age, this is an unfitting assumption.
He could have been a new player too.

I seem to recall last time we were out doing it, I got myself killed foolishly

1 month to many years, get killed when not under threat = not ninja, is fool

Cool story, bro.

I do not like the men on this spaceship. They are uncouth and fail to appreciate my better qualities. I have something of value to contribute to this mission if only they would realize it. - Bill Frug

I didn't say that.

What I said was, that it existed in the first place because it was literally free money, laying around everywhere, that could be obtained with 3 day old skills and the free destroyer from the tutorial.

I did quite a bit of salvaging for a while, and of late it just hasn't been there.

The MTU is the cause.

Unless you had friends in the system in T3 ships who would then swoop in and murder the mission runner for agressing the ninja salvager, seen THAT a few time.
