Correct.

Little research would have shown you cant train the skill on a trial account and thus might have prevented you to put all your eggs in a basket you cant carry.

the cost of a month in eve is the same as a nice bottle of wine or will last me an hour in a pub, its fairly cost effective entertainment.
id say sub for a month at least given you started the op with " Firstly, I was really liking the game,"

"especially the tech support forum is stupid."
ill give you that.

I'm not entirely sure yet lol. This is a game that takes a LOT of time to get into (I have 13 days left out of 14). The reason I find it so annoying is because it lets you buy the ship as a trial account, but gives absolutely no warning that you cannot use it as such.

The skills does and many people first look up what is needed to buy something before they spent their money (like you do by using your trial to see if it worth your money).

Also, so after 1 day you already concluded to not sub, where as it will take months to actually learn the game and IMO judge the game...

Hit me up in game and I will very glad to help you for the remaining 13 days with advice and hopefully long after that. Because in the end, even though coming across a little bit like a rant, you do have the correct view that EVE might not be for you instead of ordering CCP to change EVE to suit you.

And yes, the restriction on Tech support forum is utterly stupid, but then again the EVE community will find a way to exploit the free trials and now CCP only have to moderate 1 forum part for that.

Ok, so why can you still buy the ship as a trial account? It just creates confusion and annoyance!

because you can buy any item you have isk for and you also have the liberty of putting those items back to market at a higher price or sell those to other players directly.

This.

My trader started as a 21 trial with a cash injection. He was trading in ships from day one a trial cant even undock in.

I can understand your frustration with buying a skill book that you can't use due to restrictions (I did the same when I first started). There are many sections of eve that are like this though. Ironically eve is everything that I hate in gaming. Impossible to jump into from the get go, significant research required to accomplish the most basic of tasks, and multiplayer with few RL friends to play with. At the same time, those are all the strengths of the game. It rewards preparedness; it encourages caution; it forces you to make friends.

I hope you will finish the trial and make your decision then.

You will receive a free iteron when you finish one of the tutorial sets (business or industry I belive, maybe both). In fact the tutorials will provide many skillbooks and free ships that would more than cover your "loss".

The reason for most of the trial restrictions IMO is to keep people from creating a ton of "throw-away" accounts to do things like hauling. Since it only takes a day to skill into a decent hauler people would just keep creating new trial accounts and use discardable characters to do low skill tasks instead of paying to use them, essentially cheating CCP out of a subscription fee (that thing they use to make a quality game for all of us.)

As already said: because you could re-sell it with a profit. A huge part of the game is its economy, which mostly involves players building, buying and selling things that they cannot use themselves.

And it's not only for old players, I know at least one person who managed to earn enough ISK for a PLEX in the 3 weeks of his trial by trading things - most of which he couldn't use, especially skill books. Granted, that was an alt of an old player, but he did it without helping himself, the only advantage he had over a totally new player was his knowledge of the game.

Note to Cara: And definately NOT the first time we had to explain itP

Weird that new players don't see that lifting the trial restrictions on stuff is just a prime example of Malcanis' Law.

Barely a day old and already complaining about a situation that's your own fault because you didn't read an items description before you bought it.

I would say working as intended but the issue here isn't the game.

OP: I actually buy and sell exhumers (tech 2 mining barges) for profit despite not even being able to fly the tech 1 version. There's nothing wrong with owning ships you can't fly.

IIRC trial accounts are restricted to cruisers and smaller ships to make some of the things illicit RMT'ers do less efficient.

Just so the OP and other newbies reading this don't get confused: those tutorials each give a Nereus, not an Iteron.

I find it difficult to imagine why a trial account player would want an Iteron, even if they could fly it.

Being a somewhat new player myself, I can sympathize with the OP to an extent. The trial account does have some interesting restrictions, which I'm sure are in place for good reason(most cheap alt abuse by veterans).

The only thing I can really say to the OP is that you've learned a VERY important lesson about the core nature of EVE. Don't spend all your resources on a single thing, since it can be lost any number of different ways: Ignorance, scamming, outright attacks against you, or just a failure to understand what it is that you've actually bought.

I highly recommend that you just keep playing the rest of your trial. If you can recover from this loss, it's a good sign than you'll be well prepared for other losses in the future. One of the things I've learned about EVE is that recovering from a heavy loss is part of the challenge of the game! It's what makes it so damn interesting. Instead of thinking about how broken and bad things feel, try to ask yourself how you'd overcome, get around, or circumvent the problem instead. Why did you want an Iteron? What were you going to do with it? Are there other ways to accomplish the same thing, even on a trial account?

Granted, EVE isn't for everyone. But if you were having fun before, you really should keep playing. As others have said, it's only $10 to lift the restrictions that you found so hard to deal with.

I rarely post, and I apologize this post doesn't more constructively answer the OP's concerns, but I'm still waiting for somebody to tell us exactly WHAT Audrey Brittany can do with her Wii-controller.

Anyone?

Look, I sympathize with wanting to get the most for your money, but...

If 15$ to try something out for a month is "too expensive" for you, not only should you not be playing Eve, you shouldn't be playing any MMO or other time-intensive game in general.

Spend those hours applying for jobs so you can be employed... then, even if you're only doing 20 hrs/week flipping burgers, a month of subscription time will be a trivial expense you won't even notice spending hardly.

Basically this.

I'm a student and EVE is one of the cheaper expenses in my life.

The sub for EVE equals:

2 days of smoking habit.
less then 2 hours of drinking in local bar.

So, that month I get for my money isn't too bad.

If you do end up subscribing, this will not be the last time you mistakenly buy the wrong thing. It happens to us all at one time or another. In a hurry? Really should've gone to bed several hours ago? Drinking? I've never understood the restrictions on posting in tech support though. One would imagine that is a vital part of the new player experience.

After the last really REALLY drunk log into EVE episode, I actually hide my keyboard and mouse before I go out drinking.

A. The day after I logged in to find out I actually did spent over 1.5bil on useless items like spiced wine and janitors...

B. I got yelled at on comms, apparantly I did mistake Jita as being part of our null-sec space and was continuesly posting people's names etc in intel channels.

This is a pretty silly thing to say. Of course an old player who knows the game can do stuff like that, however noobies are just trying to learn as they go!
Anyway, I didn't lose too much ISK thankfully, and I did learn a lesson, but I stand by my earlier statements. CCP could do with seriously improving the situation with easing noobies into the game. It's an enjoyable, well made game by the feel of it, but these little rough edges can hamper your enjoyment quite badly. I agree with the person who said about some kind of filter for new players, one that only shows things they can use.

As for the person who decided to try and insinuate that I'm poor for some reason, I think you need to grow up a little! :)

P.S. To whoever said they found it 'interesting' that I bought the Iteron, the reason I did so was very simple. Higher HP that my Atron provided. Plus I also liked the ship design.. :)

Firstly, I was really liking the game, even though it is a little overwhelming to noobies like myself. Sadly though, after I bought an Iteron ship, and sold then most of my things (including my Atron ship) to pay for the required Gallente Industrial Skill, I was met with a big fat 'NOT AVAILABLE TO TRIAL ACCOUNTS' message from nowhere when I tried to learn the skill. Why can I buy the ship but not use it as a trial account? This is a really silly thing to do, and has badly ruined my enjoyment of the game.. :/

Also, not allowing trial accounts to post in any section (apart from this one as far as I can tell), especially the tech support forum, is stupid.

Anyway, rant over. I would have very likely subscribed had it not been for these couple of issues. Your loss CCP!

cool story bro.

people that quit that easily dont belong into eve anyway.
