For those following the story, I'm just about done with the tale of QEX/BU/Marmite's eviction of OTRSC last week at http://txgsync.wordpress.com/2014/04/02/repercussions/ . Hundreds of pilots volunteered for the repeatedly-foiled break-in fleets -- you guys stuck around for hours on comms, thank you! -- and I still have to figure out where/when that disappearing fleet of Ishtars went while I was offline, then I'll call it done. Gotten feedback from both sides at this point, so I hope it represents the encounter fairly! If somewhat fictionally. As usual for me, because when I write, being entertaining is far more important than being strictly truthful :-)

I apologize in advance for the length. I've kept ruthlessly pruning the story, and might continue to do so to try to make it shorter. As the show "24" demonstrates, even the events of one day may take a very long time to relate after-the-fact...

As it so happens we got us our own very intimate QEX-experience rather recently (so much for 1st april jokes :cripes:), and seeing as their capitals are still logged off somewhere in our system I will refrain from any funny comments ;P

Suffice it to say, yours is a great story and great writing and I really like your take on the whole matter! +1

It was a good read. I do like how you try not to use too much jargon and when you do you try to explain it so non-eve players can follow along without too much trouble. W-space battles don't make the main stream news like null sec battles do, but there's still plenty of good stories to go around out here. Thanks for sharing.

So who are Quantum Explosions? I've heard of Blood Union, but I know little about them. Are they both W-space entities? And if so, why are they evicting W-space PvP corps because they were caught with their pants down in Lowsec? Talk about what's wrong with W-space these days...

Blood Union = evil Russians chainrolling their static raping any PvE Fleet they spot ( rare exceptions) and great pvpers

Quantum Explosions= ex-member of Blood union, pvp at same level i'd say, but i don't know the reasons for their split etc

You should know them ;)

Thanks for the explanation. And no, I guess they don't make it down to the C2 level very often since they can't bring their caps. Our chains haven't opened up to them either that i'm aware. Eventually someday though :)

All opinions expressed herein are my own, and do not represent the opinions of my corporation or my alliance.

Here are a couple of previous write-ups:

The Blood Union/E X P L O S I O N S split appears to have been amicable. Joint operations remain common. After more than a year of routine ganks of "Like A Baws"-style fleets in C5/C6 space, I believe easy gank targets are becoming thinner. The farming prey who came to W-space mostly for the cash are drying up in the native timezone -- fleeing to Null, Incursions, and C3 or C4 space, evidenced by the rising tide of Null rental business, increasing Incursion competition, and greater occupancy rates in C3/C4 -- and thus QEX/BU have recently expanded their time zone coverage.

I believe "why" PvP corporations are being evicted -- and not just by these fellows -- is that competition is more fierce, and permanently-based farmers are drying up. In the past, just being an active PvP corporation that brought a fight -- ANY fight -- was enough to keep many of the wolves at bay. Wolves prefer any prey at all to having none. As the barrier has lowered to exploration, and recipes like the "Like A Baws" method of escalations have become increasingly popular, what was once barren space is becoming crowded indeed.

In a way, Blood Union and Quantum Explosion are doing W-space a favor by encouraging residents to become better players with better skills, fits, and tactics. As in any game, the only way to get better is to play against someone better than you are. You're going to lose hard and lose a lot if you don't know how to prepare, fit, and respond.

That's a valuable lesson, and I personally believe our recent -- and painful! -- education made me a better player.

Unless your target stores a lot of stuff in their CHA, speaking from experience W-space POS bashes aren't really all that profitable. Or particularly fun; they take a long, long time. What is fun is hanging out on comms with your EVE buddies for a couple days.

That said, the use of Marauders in hisec and C2-C4 wormholes for POS bashes is increasing due to Marauder e-war immunity while in Bastion mode. The primacy of the "ECMStar" to annoy attackers away appears to be drawing to a close. Former C5 corporations are taking refuge in C4s at a loss of ISK but large increase in safety. The increasing population pressure is sure to have its own consequences, though.

Nothing in EVE is permanent.
