Just hopefully a fun little thread.

Post your favorite goofs in movies, preferably ones you have actually found yourself, or really good ones you read about.

One of my favorites was in a Tom Cruise film in either the late 80s or early 90s (I didn't watch the whole thing), and a perusal of IMDB pretty much narrows it down to "The Firm". So.....Tom takes a flight at one point to Washington DC's Dulles Airport. There were several instances of that fact uttered previously, so they made it quite clear that he was flying into Dulles. So, he gets off the plane and realizes he needs to make a phone call. He walks up to a row of pay phones (remember rows of payphones ?) and calls his boss. The camera setup shows the phones, absolutely everyone of which is clearly labeled Pacific Bell.

In Tim Burton's "Batman", when Nicholson's Joker is making his initial TV appearance in Gotham City, America, he holds up an aerosol can generically labeled as (British) "Hair Colouring".

It may have finally been fixed, but in "LOTR:FOTR", when Aragorn is defending Boromir from that last big bad Orc, the Orc throws something at him and Aragorn knocks it out of the way with his sword. An edit immediately cuts to a camera filming from a different angle, and the cut begins with him knocking it away a 2nd time. It's a very quick cut.

In "Gravity", when Sandra "let's go" (that's all I'm gonna say), those ropes are absolutely not pulling her back to the station. Even the one wrapped around her ankle is gone, and rest of the mess of ropes are just hovering way int the background, where a few seconds ago they had been all splayed out everywhere. Egregious error IMHO. (And I'm one who forgives the "physics mistakes" otherwise).

Those kilts in "Braveheart" didn't come around for a few more hundreds of years.............(sigh).

"Jurassic Park"- when the children are in the electric car, and the goat leg hits the windshield and sticks. They scream. the goat leg is never seen again.

Steve McQueen in "Bullitt". san francisco, and the incredible 20 minute car chase up and down the hills. Closeups of hubcaps flying off the car happens no less than 7 times.

At the beginning of "Raider's of the Lost Ark", Harrison swims over to the escaping "boat plane" and emerges from the water into the plane.....absolutely bone dry.

American Army base in "Full Metal JAcket" has clearly British signage and spellings.

"Alien" - John Hurt clearly has some kind of hood on inside his spacesuit. Yet when they remove the melted helmet, it's gone.

That's all I can think of for now.

that's because it was filmed at canary warf in London
and the training scene where where they go over the assault course was filmed there . you ask how I know ?

I was based when it was filmed

ironicly the assault course was off limits to us recruits as it was deemed ....unsafe .Big smile

Ha, good ones. A couple I can think of right now:

Sean Connery sci-fi movie Outlands is set on a space station (weightless environment). Somebody in a spacesuit gets murdered. There's a long scene of blood drops dripping straight up. (So obvious that they just turned the camera or film upside down). That station doesn't have no gravity-- it has 1g of reverse straight-up gravity!

Gettysburg movie with Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger et al. is set in 1863. There's a jet contrail in the sky over one dramatic generals-on-horses scenes. (And not a goof, but just very bad wardrobe-- the ridiculous fake beards).

I know. I've read approximately 25 books around things Kubrick.

The budget on "FMJ" was exploded by all the tropical plants that had to be moved in.

But Kubrick is such the million-take professional (anything that seems wrong has to be deliberately wrong), that it's curious he did not have temporary alternative signs made just for those few shots. Revealing the facade that is film-making ??

Just remembered "Jaws".

The fim takes place during the first days of the summer season.

Production ran so long, almost every tree you see is brown-leaved or bare.

"Close Encounters"

When I finally noticed this, I slapped myself because I had seen the film ump-teen times.

So, Richard Dreyfuss' character lives near Muncie, Indiana. Apparently for quite awhile.

He sets off in his car, trying to get to Devil's Tower as fast as possible, picks up his friend Melinda Dillon by accident, they crash into the "government forbidden zone" around Devil's Tower, finally see the monument.

Dreyfuss swings the car to the side of the road, puts on the brakes, and the camera is immediately on the ground in front of the stopped car, with a license plate that plainly says Wyoming, big as a billboard in front of your face.

It's too old and beat up of a car to be a rental.

"Pearl Harbor" (the Ben Affleck thing)
-Japanese admirals are making a speech on a podium. Banners behind them are like something from samurai times (or really more like banners for modern ramen shops). Nothing like the modernized, "Westernized" Imperial Japanese Navy would use. Worse, one banner has a completely random Japanese character on it (the one for the word "star"). The other one has something equally dumb, such as "horse."

-First CGI scene of the harbor shows about 10 times the amount of USN ships than were actually there.

-That's where I turned it off. But I'm sure the list could go on and on.

"The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and a lot more old Westerns
Bad guy on top of the roof gets shot with a rifle. Instead of the bullet's impact knocking him backwards, he grabs his chest, pitches forward, and drops to the street. (OK, not an error, just unrealistic drama).

And then there's Richard Linklater, who had 2 songs removed from the soundtrack of "Dazed & Confused", as it was discovered the songs were not released until a month or two later that summer.

Oh. Another LOTR:FOTR. When Merry and Pippin try to escape the orcs, Pippin does not finish cutting his bound wrists free. But when the horse rears up and comes down on him, his arms are clearly out-thrust to the sides. Next time we see him, his wrists are bound again.

I have to say I generally have problems noticing any of these things, unless they're really obvious.

Case in point: one of those Mission Impossible movies with mr. Cruise.

At a certain point they're having a motorcycle chase and from scene to scene they switch from on- to offroad tires and back again.

Yeah. And most folks are like me and would not know the difference anyway Lol

They are indeed hard to spot (easiest is people drinking at a bar or at poolside, and the drink levels are all over the map). I'm most embarrassed it took me almost 20 years to catch the obvious Wyoming plate in CE.

ed: My dad was always pointing out erroneous military insignia. To a point of being irritating, in fact. That's the kind of thing where I had to just take his word for it.

It's been corrected now, but in the original "untainted" Star Wars, when Luke lands in the rebel headquarters after blowing up the Death Star, and the crowd is rushing at him, Luke whips off his helmet and waves shouting "Hey, Carrie !". (instead of Leia)

"The Princess Bride" - when they plunge Mandy Patinkin into that tub of water to revive him, his hair goes back and forth from wet to dry, and in a variety of positions.

Also, when Robin Wright is blindfolded and sitting there motionless, and Cary Elwes and Wallace Shawn have their hilarious argument, her long hair changes back and forth from hanging down in front and down in the back.

(who was in charge of hair continuity on that film ??)

"T2: Judgement Day" - the T-1000 smashes a hole in the helicopter and hijacks it away from the pilot. In all further shots, the hole in the window is gone.

The general public and movie critics for misnaming the two leads in "Brokeback Mountain" as cowboys, when they are clearly shepherds.

Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" - in the restaurant as the woman is about to fire a gun by surprise, a little boy in the near-ground can be seen sticking his fingers in his ears about 2 seconds before the gun is fired.

That "ooh ooh ooh, ahh ahh ahh" sound we hear in all sorts of films since the beginning, whenever a jungle is being shown (even in Star Wars when the rebel headquarters pyramid in the jungle is first seen) implying it's the sound of monkeys, is actually the sound of the Australian kookaburra bird.
