Looking at fits on Battleclinic is like asking my grandmother for advise on which smartphone to buy.

Battleclinic, not even once.

If you want to check a fit use the PL killboard, and go through PL lossmails. Bear in mind, some of those fits are piloted with a head full of implants and links.

Alternatively you could just use your brain.

Yeah, Battleclinic is basically the go to place for cookie cutter fits. They're like the self proclaimed purgers of individuality. That's not to say cookie cutter fits are bad, I mean they are typically good. The issue is that limiting yourself to only cookie cutter fits, especially when more specialized fits work better in some cases, is bad.

For example, when the 100mn Tengu came out it was trashed on Battleclinic and the people who posted those loadouts were accused of trolling. Now, after the 100mn Tengu has proved itself, a 100mn Tengu fit is considered an awesome fit. Battleclinic polling is highly biased towards FoTM and group think.

And don't even try posting a fit with cruise missiles, because apparently cruise missiles have no uses Roll

Things are only impossible until they are not.

BC is only good for when you get into a new ship you have just trained for, it gives a good starting reference

I do find that BC is quicker for killboard searching mid warp. It's less of a click fest than eve kill and zkill doesn't log all kills. It is an EFT club where fits are judged on the eft stats, received wisdom and rarely on the experience of flying.

Every city has a 'camera club'. Some also have a 'photo club'. The camera club guys get together and circle jerk over the expensive, full featured cameras and lenses they have and often sneer at anybody with gear they deem sub par. They often can't take a decent picture between them. The photo club guys will get together and show of amazing shots they got on their camera phone, disposable camera or old beater. They don't care what it was shot on.

BC are the spaceship 'camera club' guys.

But, but, a T1 frigate isn't fit correctly without at least an A-type prop mod, two officer midslots, and faction lows What?

I agree completely. Sometimes you just want a basic or cookie cutter setup for a ship you don't ordinarily fly, or you just want a starting point to work off of. Yes, I love EFT and the like, but I hate to reinvent the wheel whenever I just want to jump into an unfamiliar ship for some reason.

I just kind of feel like there should be some better, easier to use resource for such info. And yes, some of the blowhards who comment on there are ridiculous, but otherwise BC is fine for the purpose it serves.

Search the killboards for losses on the ship in question, find a pattern in the majority of the fittings and fit accordingly. Then ask a friend who isn't a complete newbro or carebear to give input (Link the fit you just built from Pyfa or someting). Think about the situations you might encounter, do you go double nano, or just one nano and an EANM? for example.

Always wonder, why people dislike bc so much. Just comparing those fits to the ones i shoot down in null, bc is pretty good. The prevalence of cookie-cutter fits might also come from other fits just being ****. And i talk about black cores med asb-vagas, goonswarm cloaky abcs and esoterias zero tank ceptors.
Potentially a single visit to bc could save those people a lot of embarrassement. Looking through the kbs of some of those posters, such a visit would do you very good aswell.

Bottomline, calling fits on bc dumb in general is poor, accusations of circlejerking are sometimes legit, but usually happen in reaction to some new guy claiming how everyone is incompetent and only his dualtanked, capstable raven is good. Afaik, post an armorraven, show some kills and people will rate it up since it works, will point out improvements etc. Go in and claim to possess ultimate knowledge while posting a shitfit (like a pve-tengu with dcu) and you'll be shat on.

People with an aversion to bc usually got shat on for the brainfarts and their corresponding behaviour.

I've always found failheap a better resource with more credible discussions.
