So at the moment I'm flying L2 in a faction frig and doing pretty well. It's a lot of fun flaying fast circles and shooting. But I searched and reviewed the forums a bit already, and realize I can't really do L3 in a Frig, maybe a T2... but it'll be very very slow. I haven't seen much talk about Cruisers though? The ISK and various sights recommend BC for L3, but these same sites recommend Cruiser for L2.

I fly Gall and use rails with drones for close work. My skills are all frigs and core skills (CPU,PG,Cap,Gunry,Nav). So I already have to invest in the Medium Turrets in addition to Cruiser skill itself.

So, can I get away with a Cruiser for L3 missions, or should I really just skip cruisers and burn up to BC? If so any advice on model and fit? What kind of drawbacks can I expect?

test it. but for new player with low skills my experience was that l1 frig l2 cruiser l3 bc was the most efficient way to run. Also dont rush into bigger hulls as u need still proper skills to fit and fly those.

The above info is correct. Myrmidon is hard to beat for l3 Gal if you have decent drone skills, but it sounds like you have more sp into guns than drones. So maybe the Brutix would be better at this point.

I tried lvl 3's in an Omen at first. I beat the mission, but it took a long time. It took me less than 24 hrs to purchase a Harbinger for level 3's and I have not looked back. Battle cruiser is so much better.

Learned that lesson on my 2wk trial account. One reason I'm still in Frigs, is all my past 40days of skill training (which I know is very little) has been core skills. CPU / PG / CAP to V, Armor Tank to IV of V (depend on skill), Gunnery Support skills to IV or V, Nav (w/ AF and MWD) to IV, Targeting IV.

I'm 28 days from having the IV or V in "Core Skills" that were covered under the old certificate, recommend by ISK Handbook and/or EveUni.

I think it's why I was doing well in L2 with a faction Frig. But I have no game experience past frigs.







I'm a day from AF if I want, but everything supports it being so slow it's frustrating. HAC sounds like a bunch of fun, but I haven't trained Desy or Cruiser yet, so it'll take much longer to reach HAC.

The Ship skills themselves aren't dependent on the skills below for anything other than the requirement to train right? I.e. If I just burn through to BattleCruiser, and neglect everything in between I won't be penalized right? (only taking about ship command skills).

Based on everyones advice, I'm thinking of training Destroyer to 3, Cruiser to 3, then BattleCruiser and Medium Rails/Drones. Then back tracking to work my way into a HAC.

Frigate/Destroyer and Cruiser/BC each have a fair degree of overlap from a skill training aspect

Frigate & Destroyers use Small Weapons
Cruisers & BC's (mostly) use Medium Weapons


Yes you can quickly scoot through ship types to get somewhere specific, but I wouldn't recommend it as a good/sensible thing to do. (I've done it before in the past, and it can end badly)
The Core Skills and the Support Skills in each weapon category can make a significant difference to ship performance.

The Engineering & Navigation groups are primary Core Skills
The Targeting & Rigging groups are secondary Core Skills

The Armour or Shield groups I classify as primary
The Ship Command group I classify as secondary

The Drones, Gunnery & Missile skill groups I would break down as follows
Support Skills are primary Skills
Specific Weapon System Skills are secondary skills
Specialisation Skills are tertiary skills

A BC with good (L4) primary skills and average (L3) secondary skills will steamroll L3's

In the above setup, remember to keep moving, kill webbing and scram npcs first, then cruisers, then any BS.

There aren't many L3 missions with a BS, but there are a few. I have run my fair share of missions. In fact, I have used that Ishkur fit above to run some L4s. It was slow going, but once you hit a certain level you just like to try out certain missions in unorthodox ships just to see if you can do it.
