EvE vs WoD? No, EvE is WoD!

This hit me the other day... anyone who has ever actually read any of the original World of Darkness books will quickly realize that EvE is already using their system! Allow me to explain...

In WoD, a newly embraced vampire is called a neonate. Fresh from the grave, still mostly human, the neonate is the most active and the most interested in the world of mortals. The get up earlier, they stay up later, they're full of energy and ambition.

In EvE... well, think back to your first week. Stacking five or six skills into your queue at a time, gritting your teeth over those agonizing one hour training times, wishing the whole thing would go faaaaaaster! There were new ships you wanted to fly! New places to go! New stuff to see! It's all so exciting, you wanted to do it all right now!

Time marches forward...

In WoD the next link up the food chain are the ancillia, those who've managed to survive for a while and can be expected not to be completely clueless. They become more involved in vampire politics and less concerned with mortal life than their younger kine. These vampires are still fairly active, but sleep a little bit more than the neonates do.

In EvE... so it's been a month or two and you've joined a player corp, along with the joys of alliance politics. You might have moved into low or null, depending on how strong your new friends are. Let's not kid ourselves, you'd get smeared on your own out here, but you can still handle anything hisec can throw at you and you know enough to stay in fleet & not do anything too reckless or stupid, right? But those skill times got a lot longer, didn't they? Now it's where you might even take a day off now and then... it's not like you're going to miss anything too important, right?

Time marches forward...

In WoD the first real major threats are the elders, the vampires who've lasted a few centuries and have amassed a good deal of knowledge and power over that time. The immerse themselves almost entirely in vampire politics, delighting in it, and see the affairs of the mortal world as a mere distraction. They sleep late and turn in early, and have grown more distant from humanity than ever before.

In EvE... you can't even keep track of all the wardecs you've been in. You spend more time reading the chatlogs of inter-alliance politics, alliances, betrayals, lies and backstabbing than you ever do flying. If you're still in highsec then EvE has become Excel Online, where you log in and update your PI, production & market orders and log back off again. The rest fly a sortie or two, update their skill queue with another two or three week long wait that will net them all of one skill dot. While you still enjoy the game, the motivation to play is starting to wane in the face of repetition and ever growing skill timers, yet your power as a player has never been higher.

Time marches forward...

In WoD vampires who've lasted over a thousand years are known as ancients, fearsome entities with the kind of power that lesser vampires can only dream of. They hunger for the blood of all their own weaker kine, as mortal blood can no longer sate them at all. They sleep for months at a time, waking only to manipulate vampire politics, wreck terror upon their rivals, and then return to their crypts again. Mortals and the mortal world no longer even register in their twisted minds.

In EvE... you check the forum to see if you got any e-mails. Yes, your leader said that one of your things has gone into reinforce and they need you to bring your supercap to such & such place at such & such time. You dutifully log in, put on your headphones, turn on TS, listen to a FC yell for an hour while the various columns on your screen blink a lot. You're hitting for over ten thousand damage per second and... you're kind of bored. You knew from the moment you cynoed in who was going to win this one, the actual battle is just a formality, really. Another enemy blob defeated you head back to your bubble and go back to playing Minecraft... for a week.

Time marches forward...

In WoD the most ancient and powerful of all vampires are known as the antediluvians. Some consider them myths, as they sleep for decades on end, rise for a night to consume an ocean of blood and then vanish back into the shadows for decades or even centuries. No one knows what could possibly motivate creatures of such power, as their minds are so far removed from anything, human or vampire, for anyone to understand.

In EvE...

"Big Battle!

From: Glorious Leader

Hey Bob! Do you still play? There is a big battle event coming up in a few months and we could really use that titan of yours! E-mail back if you'll be available sometime in August, okay?"

"Re: Big Battle!

Yeah, I might log in. I have to update my skill queue sometime in July anyway."

As someone who has played WoD (tabletop version, obviously) extensively, I only really have one thing to say.

Nice.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

My god, I've been so blind.

Goons = Brujah

E-UNI= Ventrue

TEST = Caitiff

The Russians = Nosferatu

PL = Gangrel

WH-dwellers = Malkavians

Rooks and Kings = Assamites

Chribba = Cain

Shocked

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

You want to know what immorality in EVE Online looks like? Look no further than Ripard "Jester" Teg.

Chribba is the Chuck Norris of EVE.

Don't we have a guy around here called Antisocial Malkavian or something among the lines?

I fully support this theory.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

19.08.2014 - Dinsdale gets slammed by CCP Falcon. Never forget.

You forgot the shovel heads from your list, those are the guys who got invited by their friends (friends who quit after a month). Big smile

Then those clueless but oh so hungry fledgelings crawl their way to the nearest city / career agent causing havoc in their wake.

But I'm more of a werewolf player my self and never have had much interest in Camarilla games but I loved Sabbat chronicles that I played with my troupe.

Love it

Oh, and I and some accomplaces are clearly Garou

We live outside the "normality" of the Vampire World and use our Werewolf powers to beat down the terminally stupid or weak in human and vampire society

And we are damn hot too

Ermagerd, I totally forgot that was a thing!

As long as it was original 1st Ed Aeon.

Of course, I prefer Traveller, but then thats Elite/Firefly/Andromeda and theres a lot of that in here already

All of these IPs are so incredibly fleshed out, each positively deserves its own MMO.
Not to mention the outlook on existance in each is unusually coincident with CCPs aggressive sandbox ethics.

All of the material is there, just needs translation into a digital platform.

Now if only I had millions to finance it! :D

Hows WoD doing anyways? All Ive seen so far is nice flowing dresses...

Last I had heard it was cancelled :(

So much for my hopes for The Apocalypse expansion
