Hi,

I tried to patch but got the message, You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as current user.

Then I get to choose Current User or run the program as the following user. There Administrator is already filled in.

Funny thing is, the account I use already is an administrator, what is the scoop here?

I am kind of wary to activate my Administrator account, having witnessed the boot.ini incident first hand.

OS is Win7 64 bit.

Any advice is appreciated

edit: This pops up when trying to patch by starting the game and also with the downloaded patch

It's a security feature of Windows 7 (User Account Control). Even despite your account being an administrative account you still have to explicitly allow some operations.

Easy (but possibly annoying) solution: Whenever this happens (should only happen the first time you patch the game I think), right click the link you use to start EVE and pick "Run as Administrator".

A bit more complicated solution: Move the game's folder to a folder outside "C:\Program Files", e.g. "C:\Games\Eve Online" or grant your own account full access rights to the game's folder and all files included (can be done using the file properties).

If you don't know how to do this, get someone to do this for you or ask here.

Just another note: If this happens despite explicitly picking "Run as Administrator", there might be a security issue or file permission issues. In any case, post here, and should be able to sort this out (if you don't get further help and/or I forget to answer, feel free to write me a EVE Mail using EVE Gate).
