It has been over a year or two (or three!) since I have really put any significant hours into this game, but I still keep coming back because there is no game like it!

Anyways, ship prices seem to have doubled (or tripled) from what I remember.

I remember 65m domi and geddon
I remember 75mil zealot and Cerberus
I remember 115 mill absolution and nighthawk
I remember 30 mill brutix and prophesy.
I remember 90 mill Curse (I really miss this price. My favorite ship in the game!)

What happened?

Try looking at the prices of the building materials?

I don't think I ever recall t2 ships like hacs/recons under 100m or command ships under 150.

As for the t1 ships, many got their build costs increased when they were buffed as a part of tiericide.

Basically. Someone set thier sale price above market value the next guy see this and ups his price and this continues unabated. Sure there other factors like war , ganking and patch rebalancing but as its a free market greed is good.

That's not how it works, mate.

As has already been stated, mineral prices dictate ship prices, just like in the real world.
There's a markup, because the manufacturing toons need to make money, too.
Then there's a further markup for selling outside trade hubs. The prices go up when you dip into lowsec.

This is just how a real economy works. EVE has the closest thing to a real economy in any game. Prices aren't arbitrary.
The death of "drone poo" alloys was a factor. Now the upcoming refining restrictions will raise prices a little, again. So prepare for it to get worse.

If you can't handle it, I'll gladly take your assets and ISK, while you unsub.
As much as I would like to be given a bunch of free stuff, though, I encourage you to stay.

.... Well I assumed people didn't just start charging more for no reason.

Let me rephrase the question if it makes you feel better

What happened to mineral prices used to make ships?

CCP added a bonus round to the materials to troll all the indy guys..................... Smile

drone regions, drones no longer drop minerals.

misison loot drops less minerals (less to refine)

This and they increased mineral requirements on a a lot of big ships. Not sure about the curse, I'd have to price the t2 components but wars have been fought, wars have been lost and moons have been nerfed also. Its possible the nerfs increased plex sales so that income to ccp was increased indirectly also. 1000 dollar jeans and stuff ya know.

There a loot refine nerf coming also, should fuel another bump up. This may put a profit margin in t1 industry though since stuff on the market buy prices will drop to reflect new refine potentials. Some of that isk might go to new indy guys instead of ccp though high plex prices are always good for CCP's backpocket.

Inflation shouldn't be brushed-off so easily.

As EVE grows with more players, they need more ships and modules, so that increased demand raises prices.

As EVE grows with more players, there is more ISK created into the economy by them tapping the faucets, and prices rise.

As EVE grows with more players, ISK changes hands more often, increasing the apparent amount of ISK in the economy ("the velocity of money"). PLEX are also a huge enabler of this, and with more people using PLEX, the effect also increases.

Except none of these factors are real, and the market is showing current deflation even.
Every major shift in overall ship prices can be traced to direct influences on the mineral market changing supply & demand.
Every major shift in an individual ship price can be traced directly to buffs/nerfs in minerals to build & power of the ship.

Minor shifts can be easily attributed to shifts in production trying to chase the best isk ratio's.

Despite the raise in mineral prices miners still make far far less income than almost any other profession in EVE. Be glad they aren't charging you an equivalent income to lvl 4 missions.

In addition to any price inflation on the minerals required these two in particular have been effected by a significant change in mineral requirements. When they were 60m they were also Tier 1 BS, with the removal of Tiers their mineral requirements jumped to close to that of the (previously) Tier 3 BS. The significant increase in price did come with a significant increase in HP and capability.

wars in nullsec happen every 3-8 months. The rest is spent farming and building up isk. Mining is boring and theres no other way to get minerals.

I don't buy PLEX, though I now 200m for a PLEX doesn't seem so bad (this was their price when they were first introduced). Heck, I remember when you could get a 90day GTC for under 300m.

Prices have probably finally aligned to take into account the Additional Materials section that was added a while back

- Removal of drone alloys increased mineral prices

- Rebalancing most of those ships you listed increased their demand slightly

- Tier 1 and 2 battleships got bumped up to the material cost of Tier 3's during their rebalance, accounting for the most significant increase in their costs.

They put PI into a lot of stuff too. They did it wrong it looks, the imbalances are getting worse instead of correcting like the market demand would indicate. If I didn't know better, I'd think they intended to buff t1 industry for the new guys, PI's low skilled too, and now the refine nerf I'm looking at as a noob buff too.

Now they either screwed up on the balancing, or all the imbalances indicate potential profit somewhere.
