Why would you want to change the drone interface so that you can manage targets when you are already managing targets by locking, assigning and activating a module?
Newbie here, first post I feel qualified to comment on, be gentle P

I use a target painter to tell my drones to engage, I paint it, they attack it, most of the time. It helps with the railgun damage too. Is the kind of thing you're talking about?

If not I'd love to know more because it sounds like something worth knowing about.

First off, welcome to Eve.

The comments posted about drone aggression mechanics were directed at drone control, the Mobile Tractor Unit [MTU], target management and drone aggro-settings [Passive v Aggressive] and how those settings could cause a player to be flagged as a suspect [anyone can engage you for 15mins, aka "blinky orange"] This would result in capsuleer's being unintentionally pulled into a Limited Engagement when their drones, which were set to Aggressive, would automatically attack the suspect-flagged players which would in turn allow them to shoot you. Some think this is a great mechanic. Others think that ehhhh maybe that's not the best way to have it by default.

CCP's response was to change drone aggro mechanics so that your drones would not automatically engage other players who were attacking your stuff. In the interest of preserving the essence of Eve, I am of the opinion that education and knowledge, rather than baby-proofing, are empowering.

What do you think?

^^ Thanks for the explanation, I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to drone mechanics, as far as I'm concerned they're remote weapons platforms and should attack anything that attacks me if I have them set to aggressive. I only set them passive when there's a goodly chance of them killing something that drops a new wave of NPC's on me, or when there's an unknown player on field with me.

I don't burn bridges, I merely steal a bolt a day.

Thanks for that, just read through it and it's very informative indeed. I have good scanning skills as that's what I set out to do to make isk when I started playing a few months ago, and it's really cool that with not a huge amount of training I can be relatively effective at pvp. I shall be referring back to it regularly and will keep you posted - if you're interested.

Definitely, keep in touch or reach out to me in-game if you have questions.

I look forward to being able to post a blog entry of someone taking these tools and applying them towards a juicy kill. :)

Based on the unprecedented levels of heresy against HTFU displayed in Ripard Teg's blog and this thread (denouncing Erotica1's right to scam and generally f#ck with the people of New Eden for our amusement), your inquisitors of Kill-It-Forward regretfully added a +5 to the death queue.

I ask...will Ripard Teg, LUMINOUS SPIRIT or the countless pansies calling for nerfs to TOS, EULA and EvE recompense poor EJ Ormand for his Brutix loss? Will they renounce their heresies? I think not.

Despicable.

The question is, who will join me in this holy war against the slow water drip of continued pussification of EvE? For you need NOT be a master of pvp, anyone can learn how, its easy. (And quite frankly jolly good fun...)

Come Hecubus...

I'm crying over here. A better love story than Twilight.

I did this for awhile as part of the "DMC Initiative". Finding the youngest bros (outside of the starter systems) in hopefully their very first Retriever and ganking them. Told them we were inspired by Forum philanthropist DeMichael Crimson to carry on our good works. I always hoped, but never new, if any of them contacted him. Since Crimson is so easy to poke, I assume if they had contacted him I would have heard.

You sir have inspired me! The "DMC Initiative" shall be reborn!

What a glorious night for Kill-It-Forward and retribution against calls for nerfs to EvE!

  • Our newest inquisitor of HTFU, Melia Dryus, posted a -2 to the kill queue within mere hours of joining the jihad.

  • This was quickly followed by Haedonism Bot putting up his own -1 to the kill queue, with a beautifully executed theft & beheading combo that brought tears to the grand inquisitors eyes.

With your help, we can (and are) making a difference in the war against nerfs and pansification of EvE. But there is so much more to do...

After the banning of erotica i am adding CCP to the list and will come to highsec and kill some mission runners. I will post here when the task is done

The inquisition thanks SIlvetica, and everyone else in these times of crisis for their efforts in protecting our roots and traditions of HTFU. You are surely doing the lords work.

In fact, I have an idea, I will start a decorations page on my blog to list all of the heroes of Kill-It-Forward. CCP has their monument of census, we will have our monument to heretic blood...

"Hear ye, hear ye...

Everyone who splodes a carebear in hisec and then mails them (and myself) a Kill-It-Forward notice denouncing nerfs & pansification, will be glorified forever on my site. Everyone who shows particular heroism or panache while doing so, will receive special mention.

GOD WILLS IT." (and link to follow as soon as his humble servant has prepared it...)

I'm kind of on the fence about this.

On one hand you are pretty much targeting new players, taking advantage of the weak and ignorant. The way you communicate with them, it's like you think you're doing God's work or something. Come on, you're not that cool, dude. You're just a nerd playing a video game like everyone else.

On the other hand you did sent the pilot 400m after the loss which shows you're not purely an ass. Your communications with them, while somewhat arrogant, are not particularly disrespectful either I suppose.

Overall I like what you're doing and I think stuff like this is what makes EVE so great. I believe an adjustment to your attitude towards your victims would go a long way though. This whole thing reaks of the typical scenario in EVE, where an extremely damaged and immature adult will attempt to bother other players in order to feel better about himself.

Sorry if that sounds rude, but I can't help but see signs of it here.

You didn't quote, so I'm assuming by the 400m comment that you're referring to: http://evedarklord.blogspot.ca/2014/03/metagasms.html

New players don't fly t2 battleships (marauder) filled with t2 mods, or rattlesnakes with t2 mods. Unless they've $ > PLEXd their way there, in which case Welcome to EvE, sharp lesson delivered.

weak? 1500 passive dps on the rattlesnake. Had he not accepted the duel from Feyd's friends, I imagine Feyd would've had to given up.

ignorant? If you've managed to get up to level 4 missions in a t2 battleship and you still don't understand that big guns can't hit fast moving small targets, that's your own fault - don't engage the frig.

Feyd is a bit of a **** and I'm not overly keen on everything he does, but he's not to blame for people letting themselves be blown up.

Not just for the injustice done to content creators like Erotica1, but for all carebears wailing and gnashing their teeth calling for nerfs and spouting pansied heresies against HTFU...let the honored names of those who answer the call be known throughout the land.

We must all safeguard our sandbox. When the calls for nerfs and denouncing of sandbox heroes like Erotica1 stop, we will stop. Until then, shoot a carebear in the face, and let him know why you do so, cc'ing me on your notification to him (or tell the story here) so I can add you to the list of heroes.

Together we can make a difference.

p.s.
+1 added to the Kill-It-Forward queue for the pansied heresy of WouldYouEver HaveSexWith aGoat who refuses to understand its truths.

Our work it seems, is never done...

Lina made some great points, so for the purpose of expediency, I will not reiterate. However, you seem to have missed the part about LoM being new-player-friendly. You also seem to be missing the points being raised about teaching new players how to defend themselves, how to manage operational risk effectively and most importantly, that we need to adapt and overcome as players, new and old alike, if we are to embrace the essence of Eve.

Eve is a game, you are 100% correct. I would stop there and go no further by claiming that "Eve is just a game" because, well, that wouldn't be very meta, would it?

Your claims, by themselves, are not the most damning thing about your post; you do render your argument null and void [see what I did there?] by saying that you like what we're doing, that we did fairly compensate a player who demonstrated an exceptional attitude and willingness to learn, as well as going on to say "This whole thing reaks of the typical scenario in EVE." You seem to be at odds with yourself more than you are with the Inquisitors of Kill-It-Forward.

Eve is what we make it. Pitch in, pick a side(s) and do it up ... we'll all be better off in the long run because HTFU.

I've never been gone... I've been running *gasp* Amarr Epic Arc for the past few days in my blinged out Nightmare, taking a break from my usual L4 blitz routine. Of course, I've always found the time to AFK-mine in my un-tanked, optimized-yield-fitted Mackinaw while I'm here at work.

I'm telling you, violating CODE. and all it stands for is a full-time job in itself!
