EVE: Source Population Figures — Questions

Two questions regarding the population figures given in EVE: Source

  1. Each of the four population sections has an (unlabelled) percentage number; I don't have the text in front of me, but quoting from another forum the numbers are Amarr Empire 29%, Gallente Federation 27%, 14% Minmatar Republic, 11% Caldari State. While the ratios between these percentages are the same as the ratios between the (non-slave) populations of the four main empires, they don't tally to 100%, and so it is an open question just what whole these percentages are supposed to be a percentage of and what are the missing 19%.
  2. In the Amarr population section, there is a line "Percentage actively practicing religion: 98%". Because this line is under a subheading about the status of Minmatar within the Empire, I assumed it meant that 98% of Minmatar actively practice religion. Others, however, believe it means that 98% of the entire population of the Amarr Empire actively practice religion. A problem with that interpretation is that the Amarr Empire population includes huge numbers of Caldari and a decent sized number of Gallente; there is nothing in the way the text is printed that suggests the religion percentage is meant to be, say, Amarr citizens only, resident aliens excluded.

My immediate interpretation when I first read this was 98% of the Empire Population. Which would include the expats.

  • I would think that the remaining 19% would apply to residents outside of the empires. Pirate space and capsuleer space.

The Amarr citizenship is closely tied to their religion. If you don't follow the religion, at least not outwardly, you're not really Amarr. You also have to understand that a lot of those "non practicing peoples" can very well be captured slave populations, which would explain why they don't practice it as adamantly, if at all. The other 2% are probably outcasts or capsuleers, especially the latter since capsuleers have almost unlimited freedom, and they don't have to follow the religion if they hate it.

    Some choose to continue, though.

The 19% is simply every other remaining population that doesn't fit in the four main populations and their races. The capsuleer population wouldn't even reach 0,3 % of the entire population if that is still not too much. The population of what we make up within the game could easily be the real percentage, if you take 50 to 80 k capsuleers, we really are not that significant.
