Well I hope CCP start negotiations with another supplier. FB wants this for the IP only.Cry They're not interesting in the gaming market, more in gaming the market with advertising revenue.

I suspect, they're really after a Google Glass look-alike to service more inane farmville or "likes".

I think that if CCP hadn't invested so much time and money into this and were not themselves run by venture capitalists then things might be different.

I suppose my biggest disappointment is that Oculus had the chance to build something really, really cool, and with Valkyrie being part of that.

They had the chance to be pioneers in their field, instead they've sold out.

But Hell it could be worse, they could of sold it to EA

And not just because of intrusive ads and skeevie voyeuristic spying. $20 billion is being dumped into this thing. That kind of investment demands a ton of titles and is not interested in how good any of them are. That kind of investment also demands flimsy piece of crap hardware that breaks a day after the 30 day warranty is over, but it'll be all the bland mass produced farmville knockoffs and movie licensed titles that'll kill it dead.

Facebook will make their money back, no doubt about that. But some investments you get paid back by building something up, and some investments you get paid back by tearing something apart.

The idea of sticking your head in a bucket for any kind of entertainment is DOA, much less for playing a bunch of farmville games.

I agree with it all. There have been some who have miraculously and beautifully used 3D, especially James Cameron and Alfonso Cuaron most recently. But most 3D productions are indeed gimmicky as they used to be in the 1950s. It gets old. And I cannot support the 3D conversions of older films (Star Wars, etc.). That's just a pure money grab, and I think the public smelled that out rather quickly.

Besides, I just don't feel like playing games with some bulky device strapped to my head. And from what demos I've seen, this thing has a really annoying "fish-eye" effect that drives me crazy. It's just never going to be utterly realistic in any way.

IMHO, games are "kinetic" enough for me as they are. The intensity of Doom upon it's initial release was enough for me. For me, EVE:Valkyrie would be enough as is in 2D. I don't need the distraction of 3D when having to think about movements that quickly. It's just not something I would personally enjoy (maybe my age of 48 has something to do with that). The philosophy of More, Bigger, faster, intenser has just worn off for me utterly.

Besides, I think the public is a little creeped out at the photos of a roomful of demo users with these things strapped to their heads. It's a complete withdrawal from the world to play in something that does not exist. As if the real world were not interesting and problematic enough.

I'm sure we'll be hearing diatribes from the likes of William Gibson and other Futurists soon, as the initial impact of this settles down and the philosophizing begins.

No.

However, there are many many generations of advancement between the two.

I have tried the rift, and it's difficult to describe just how much of a difference there is in immersion between wearing the light headset, and using a regular screen. Other than 'a lot'

Source, please? I'm genuinely asking, as I despise Facebook as a company, and I would love to have more current evidence to present to certain relatives about their unethical behavior.

I found info about the recent lawsuit over the sale of information, but I couldn't find anything stating that they actually admitted anything. If they really have, that would be gold.
