Since your talking about making new ship models. Can I ask that you consider making an Eve Chess Set? I believe you have enough variety in the Empire Races and ORE to make a set of pieces for each one. Not sure that you have enough ships for the Pirate factions.

Pawns - Frigate
Knights - BattleCruiser
Bishops - Logi
Rooks -Battleship
Queen - Carrier/Mothership
King - Titan

As an example for the Minmatar pieces

Pawn - Rifter
Knights - Hurricane
Bishops - Scimitar
Rooks - Tempest
Queen - Hel
King - Ragnarok

You could even do for ORE

Pawn - Venture
Knights - Procurer
Bishops - Noctis
Rooks - Hulk
Queen - Orca
King - Rorqual

Back in my OpenGL class (like 3 or 4 years ago) I ripped a bunch of ship models from the game with Triexporter and then made a chess board with cell-shaded Eve ships. I think I had Caldari on one side and Amarr on the other. I made a cell-shaded Wyvern first and it looked so cool that I decided I had to do more. And somehow that turned into a chess board.

Here's another version;

Pawn - Interceptor (Hero tackle, expendable)
Knights - Heavy Assault Cruiser (Great mobility, usually fights within brawl range)
Bishops - Tier 3 Battlecruiser (Excellent range, can land killing blow from across the field)
Rooks - Tier 3 battleship (Also excellent range, survives a long time in a fight)
Queen - Tech 3 cruiser (Because of versatility)
King- Command Ship (Always dies last in a fight, usually, and is often piloted by the FC. When FC dies and there's no target caller, the fleet usually falls apart. Check Mate.)

And have 4 sets of this, one for each race.

I'm hoping to see some models appropriately scaled to allow for this. I don't think its necessary for CCP to market an actual chess set though.

or use actual rooks :)

T3's need to be versatile so no rigs are necessary ... they should not have OP dps and tank

ABC's should be T2, remove drone assist, separate HAM's and Torps range, -3 HS for droneboats

Shogi would be really interesting, but aren't the look of the pieces one of the defining aspects of shogi? To be completely honest I don't know if there's a history of shogi pieces coming in different shapes.

Also, how would you deal with promotions? Once again, showing my shogi ignorance because you could of already listed the promotion without my knowing.
