And btw, check out the link in the article to Shatner's book about Trekkie nerds. Somehow, they seem strangely familiar.... you just have to switch EVE for Trek and there you go.

Since this is an alcohol based thread......bad news for Margarita drinkers:

Restaurateurs squeezed by shortage of limes

...due to the West Coast drought.

"A major shortage of limes in Mexico, Florida and Southern California has pushed prices through the roof, jumping six times their average in the month."

"The four locations of Tacolicious go through 180 cases of limes a week, thanks to robust margarita sales, says owner Joe Hargrave. Usually a case costs around $18, but this month, it surged to more than $115. Do the math, and the lime shipment jumped from $4,000 to roughly $20,000 per week. " "If customers want the usual Tacolicious margarita made with lime juice (and its usual mates of Tequila and agave syrup), the price is up $3 to $12.50."

BTW, has anybody seen the Cali avocados this year ?? Shocked Tiny. TINY, wrinkled and brown and unusable.

Other items affected by the drought will be revealed this summer, and food budgets will be broken.

I remember the drought back in the 70s and a quart of OJ cost around $9.00 (in 1977 dollars). That'd be around $25 nowadays.

That's bad news about the limes. I'm not sure what percentage of U.S. vegetable crops come from California, but it's a lot. We could be looking at some high food prices.

About 30% of the citrus, and 42% of the "total value" of all produce production.

And forget about having salmon for a few years. It ain't happening for them (rivers too dry to swim upstream).

Looks like my Margarita intake will be down. Good thing i can compensate with my Bloody Mary/Caesar intake!

I wonder if the cost at Margaritaville in Las Vegas will increase as well....

Prices in Vegas probably will not be affected, as they have such a profit margin there from the gambling, they can afford to take a loss on their lime costs.

You're absolutely right about them on the price. Oh the memories..........and the lack of them as well.

I would always order a 'Perfect Margarita' and a Volcano Nachos. Damn that thing is huge. You could feed 2-3 normal ppl with that plate. Then head onto a couple of those 45oz 'Booze in a Blender' ones.

Walk in and stagger out. Good times.

I have no idea actually.

It would not be good if there were no almonds.

My wife loves almonds.

No Almonds would mean she would be upset.
