I just read that one gaming company already ditched oculus because of facebook, citing no faith in anything associated with facebook. I have to agree with him after reading the article. But I have never been a facebook fan so am a bit biased.

Well there goes that product. I downgraded the purchase from day one to maybe if FB won't mess it up... and even then maybe. And just when the future for simulation and space games looked good tooSad

This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

I'm just wondering if CCP had insider info on this back when they originally "decided" to go with OR ??

Of course they do, nobody would do anything like that for free, but the barrier for indie developers is lower which helps them reach a market.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a really bizarre paring?

Who would want to use a VR system that forces you to connect ot the real world? Isn't VR all about being immersed in a different world?

Even ignoring the whole privacy issue, it seems like a bad combination. Just my view though.

said company is Mojang, Minecraft's owner

also, i do feel the same regarding FB, as does a vast majority of IT / tech ppl.

unfortunately, most of the Oculus VR and CCP's crowd is composed of such ppl, meaning it is a big problem for Valkyrie imao....

as i said earlier, i was considering buying a VR and valkyrie, now there is just no way (unless valkyrie can be used without VR and is worth it this way, then i might consider valkyrie again).

also several of my friends had preordered DK2, they all cancelled (+-10 ppl), and i've heard lot of ppl are doing the same.

i'd be curious to see the preorder stats for the last 2 days, Oculus team might be shitting bricks right now

edit: i'll murder that forum if it ate my post once more

I can see the problems with this: Playing a game on the Facebook VR system when this message pops up in the middle of your view as you're about to take the shot to win the Olympics from the Moon Zombies:

Would you like to comment on John Carmack's status?

Minecraft is what you're reffering to.

They literally deleted all their data when they heard the news...

-Edit-

Because of Spam/Data mining/3rd party sharing/NSA uplink/etc etc... No way in hell am I going to buy a rift now!

They don't need to sell them, anyone can scrape them. Don't upload your photos to the web if you don't want them to be misused. Easy to understand.

The amount of tin foil hattery in this thread about facebook, and the internet at large is pretty depressing.

Even if it's not like that, I simply don't trust Facebook enough to trust they won't try to track everything to sell on. The great thing about the rift was that it was independently funded and wasn't just the agenda of a larger company. If I'm going to be trusting a larger company to push a product on me and the choices are FB and Sony, FB loses hands down.

yeah, as far as supervillains in a sotry go, FB is the evil mastermind who backstabbed everyone, constantly makes alliances for the sole purpose of murdering everyone involved, and generally is poinon.

Sony is like that villain that TRIES to be a threat, but is so incompetent he keeps tripping on the cape everyone told him to stop wearing years ago.

Valve isn't much better than any other company.

They have an F rating on the better business bureau, mostly because of their horrible (non-existent) customer service.

And have you ever read their EULA? It is despicable.

Granted they are a little better than facebook, but that isn't saying much.

PS: I was excited for valkyre, now I'm not. Hope CCP pulls their support from it and develops for another VR platform.

in the world of business there are no good guys.

Valve is just that one bad guy willing to reasonably deal with people instead of going around stabbing babies in cribs because one of them MIGHT be a threat one day.

Also CCP...

Kudos to the ones who saw it coming so early that the Oculus is going to be a smash hit.

Then again... you had that those guys at your party in Cologne and you had them drunk... but instead of coming back with the rift, you leave it for some nouveau-riche social media douchebag and lose Soundwave at the Wargaming booth. :-/

2 year old start up funded at $91 million is purchased for $2 billion. It's a venture capitalist,.... dream. Congratulations Oculus Rift.

Say,... how about that Disney buying Maker Studios for $500 million.

Ahh yes, you mean the BBB that was caught selling higher ratings.

Look at other companies ratings, the BBB is a joke.

Just like CCP's response to this is

Quote:
We're very excited for our friends and colleagues at Oculus," David Reid, CCP Games' CMO told us. "We share their vision about the future of VR and gaming and are looking forward to participating in the consumer launch of the Oculus Rift with EVE: Valkyrie."
