I just dont get how players fall for the whole "doubling isk" scam. When was the last time you legitimately got something for nothing?

I just absolutely love all the people who will now crawl out of the woodwork to claim themselves as being harassed, whether it actually happened or not. Sheeple cant resist following the herd.

Im going to get out my witch-burning stakes and drowning cages, and print off some T-shirts so I can profit from the New Salem Witch Trials.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I think that is going on is that isk doubling is a mind trick. It preys on a mark's greed for easy isk. Most of the isk doublers end there, simply keeping monies sent.

But it seems a few go further by actually doubling small sums. This causes the mark to want larger sums and engenders the fear of missing out. Money keeps on going back and forth until it is at a stupendous sum, then when the scammer safely has the desired isk in their custody, the money stops.

Some then go yet further, exploiting the sunk cost fallacy within the mind of the mark with the use of bonus rooms and the like. When the scammee sends their money and they are invited to a bonus room, the scammee might for a brief instant think that they received something special and elite and better than what regular people receive. This illusion is quickly shattered when they don't received their expected doubled isk. They are told to have absolute faith, and hand over yet more assets. With themselves unable to say anything for fear of losing already sent isk they feel they have no choice but to comply. Soon all of their stuff is in the custody of the doubler and they are made to do humiliating things on TS. Eventually the doubler refuses to give them their assets; the mark is stripped of their stuff, their isk, and their dignity and left with only the feeling of being had.

While I've never given isk to an isk doubler, I sometimes feel the urge, maybe this particular isk doubler is legit, or it's only a little bit of money. Beware though, that's what the isk doubler wants you to think. They may as well have some old man riding shotgun waving their hand and trying to put such ridiculous notions in your head.

Never been "scammed" out of everything :)

And i'm not one of those "DO NOT TRUST ANYONE, EVER" sort of people, either. I just use common sense - and a lot of people in this universe have a hard time with that. Their personal greed tends to overwhelm the part of their mind that is pinging them over and over, telling them they are making a mistake - but they do it anyway.

I mean, come on. If a random dude showed up at your door and shouted "ZOMG!!1! GIVE ME ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY AND I WILL RETURN 2X THAT AMOUNT, MONEY UP FRONT - I'LL BE BACK IN A BIT WITH YOUR PAYOUT!" - and you give that guy your money, well - you screwed up. Fool and his money.

I trust a select group of people who have proven to have my back, and I am careful about how far I extend that trust. I play eve like a game of chess - I think about my moves very carefully, take all the time I am allowed to consider my options, then I make my move. It has served me well.

Except for PVP in FW. I don't get time to always consider my moves quite enough, and I make tons of mistakes. But i'm getting better!

If you'd like to discuss this issue, please feel free to do so in the original thread that was created, and stop spamming the forums with new threads.

This is a situation that we've been monitoring for some time now, and recent events have sparked renewed discussion with regards to what, if anything will be done in regards to what's happened.

Thanks.
