Sometimes the sandbox needs cleaning

Just educated myself on what was causing all this drama in GD regards a certain bonus room.

Bullying and exploitation is bad, I know CCP pride themselves on having a lawless sandbox for us all to crap in. But sometimes things go too far and this bonus room thing is past that line in my opinion.

A honest question for any dev/GM/ISD who will lock these threads:

What if this happened to a sibling, a loved one. Who then went on to commit suicide, self harm or mutilate themselves. Would this still be acceptable behaviour?

Cleaning up the forums would be nice, they could start with removing this thread.

You know there's a thread already. Right?

I understand that you feel your opinion is so important that it needed it's own thread. But you know what? You were wrong.

The more threads, the more impact it has, the more people know what is going on in this game. Some people just post for the sake of posting in as many threads as possible Mr peen.

I open threads to keep spreading the word and get opinions across better. 1 thread is easy to sit on, if the whole front page is on this matter, not so much

Yes because your loved one or sibling would have serious mental issues and if you were a good loved one you would have spotted these physiatric problems and would have gotten professional help for them prior to a horrible incident, and because you weren't breaking any rules set by CCP.

If you google even basic mental health problems, depression for example, you may be surprised by the amount of people who have, are or will suffer from it.

The way this bonus room is done would make even the most confident happy person shall we say upset. What if the "victim" is not as confident and happy as you clearly are. Things could go bad, very bad.

If you feel happy justifying this behaviour that's down to you but it does make me question if I want to associate with this game any longer. I realise it is not CCP's fault, but they are the only people with the power to take any kind of action to prevent or protect people from things like this in their universe.

I've done worse than Ero did at a poker table. Against RL friends that are still friends.

I have not, however, EVER crossed the line that the contestant in that bonus room did by making RL death threats.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

The Mittani encouraged people to harass someone out of game... Got punished.
Erotica harasses people OUT OF GAME, people applaud....

Seriously?

This is an out of game blackmail issue. Not an in game scam.
It really is that simple.

Though CCP has a duty of care towards its subscribers in general law to ensure that their game is not a forum for harassment, bullying and similiar.

Since EVE Online is being used as a launching point for this harassment, CCP is aware of that, and CCP is allowing it to happen through apathy then CCP is vicariously liable for any harm that the behaviour might cause to its subscribers even though its no directly responsible.

And yes I am a trained paralegal, though not a lawyer. CCP is setting itself up for a lawsuit, whether that would be successful is a matter for the courts but its a rather silly position to take for a big company.

Where the bargaining point is ISK or ingame assets which as the EULA/TOS states are the property of CCP games they do infact have a responsibility and the power to intervene in this situation.

Those barginning points have zero RL value. The mark lost his stuff from greed and made IRL threats. I have no idea why anyone is defending him. He wasn't in any way harrassed and everything that happened to him was voluntary. Markedly different to the average gate camp or hot drop.
Why this someone under the influence of greed /stupidity deserves more protection from CCP than a ratting carrier being hot dropped is beyond me. I hope he gets banned for his IRL threats.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

If you'd like to discuss this issue, please feel free to do so in the original thread that was created, and stop spamming the forums with new threads.

This is a situation that we've been monitoring for some time now, and recent events have sparked renewed discussion with regards to what, if anything will be done in regards to what's happened.

Thanks.
