Social "Skill at social interaction. 5% bonus per level to NPC agent, corporation and faction standing increase."

So, I am wondering how the Social skill is supposed to work on negative standing hits.

I see 3 possibilities:

1: Not doing anything.

2: Increase the magnitude of each hit (1 becomes 1.25, -1 becomes -1.25).

3: Make each hit 25% better for you (1 becomes 1.25, -1 becomes -0.75).

So I want to test which one it is, but how does one test this?

Derived standings is what comes to mind for me, but since the math behind that is unknown, and the derived hit changes every time you do a mission it becomes impossible to use as tool for this.

So, looking for an idea how to test, or someone who has already done this and want to share.

I find it very likely that your option nr. 1 applies, since the skill description talks about standing 'increase' and you are talking about standing 'decrease'.

Decreasing would be the Anti-Social Skill Blink

Good argument for the description actually saying something about it.

Also have arguments for both 2 and 3 though.

2 applies because this is how it works if just implemented without thinking about how it should work for negatives.

3 applies because you are getting better at social interaction and can smoothen the waters.

But I still want to know :).

And then there was much needed laughter. Very nice.

Diplomacy and Social do completely different things.

Diplomacy belongs with Connections.

It would seem it is option 2, negative hits are increased as well and you don't really get anything from the skill as a mission runner.

If you just want to quickly raise 1 faction and don't care about ruining everything else, it will allow you to do so faster, but it doesn't make it easier to avoid ruining standings.

Everything is relative.

With few exceptions (Blood-Stained Stars, destroying NPC faction ships / structures, etc.), you can't lose standing without gaining standing.

Example: Caldari Storyline - Gain 1% with Caldari, lose 0.5% with Gallente.

I have Social 4, Connections 4, and Diplomacy 4 (will train all to 5 someday - have on my alt):
Caldari = +8.60, Amarr = +7.22, Minmatar = +0.10, Gallente = -0.56
I decline all player faction kill missions, even if they are storylines. I bounce between Caldari, Amarr, and Sisters of EVE missions.

You can avoid all player faction standing too, by also declining all storyline missions. My alt has 9.67 standing with Caldari Navy, and no Caldari / Amarr / Gallente / Minmatar standing at all.

As you describe, you need to bounce exactly the same between different factions to balance your standings with Social V as you do if you had no Social skill at all, making the Social skill completely worthless to have in this case.

What it does is help your non-faction standing alt to obtain the high Caldari Navy standing faster.

After 8.0 it doesn't matter.
