My computer got me killed!

Ok, first, yes, I'm whining just a little bit, and yes, I probably know the answer this question already, but I'm going ask anyway.

So I'm happily zipping through low-sec in my Prowler last night collecting my PI stuff when my computer just shuts itself off. No warning, no blue screen, no nothing, just bang. Wouldn't restart with out doing some windows diagnostic thingy that took over 20 minutes. So of course, when I finally do get back to the game, I'm all exploded and podded and butthurt and feeling sorry for my self and well, just raging at the complete unfairness of it all, life, space, gaming, my receeding hairline... but I digress.

So the ship and pod are gone due to a hardware issue at my end. I'm guessing its on me to just eat the loss, but was wondering if I filed a petition would CCP grant me little mercy? I believe they only reimburse if the loss was caused by their server, but hopefully I'm wrong? Straight

(and yes, I can replace the loss, I don't need THAT lecture! Smile)

I feel like we're not being told something here......If you were manually flying, when your PC failed, your ship would emergency warp and log out.

Now I never use autopilot, but I presume even if you were on autopilot, at the time connection is lost, the ship should warp to emergency and dissapear, same as manual flying.

So the question I'd ask is "why did your ship sit around, where it could be easily seen/shot at" after you disconnected?

Something is missing from the story here.

Don't know what to tell you. I don't autopilot, not in low-sec for sure! I was in warp, cloaked, about to land on a gate when my screen went black. By the time I got back into the game, I was sitting in a pod in Rens..... Cry

Just looked at the kill board, they guy who killed me waited 15 minutes after killing the ship to kill the pod. I'll have to convo him tonight find out what that was about.

May I have your stuff?

If it's any consolation, I've lost ships due to

-Wife
-Children
-Doorbell
-Dog
-Computer deciding whatever it wanted to do was more important than Eve

I often have to swallow the red mist when Wifey n Kid's are about, have offered, many a time, to move the tv into the front room for them, but no..., selfish gits insist on it being left in the living room near my pc.

that just means they want to spend time with there dad, be happy about that.

I had to move my pc to the family room or the wife and I hardly see eachother if we are both gaming lol.

your pod did an e-warp after the ship was lost, he had to scan it down to kill it. Scanning pods is hard.

my guess is you landed at 0 and decloaked about the time the server registered you were gone, this gave yoru attackers time to tackle and kill you. Thus flagging you for 15 min.

My PC is a 10 year old, Pentium D, intergrated graphics toaster... Lol It's, erm, well a disaster to be honest. Crashes and gets me nearly killed a lot...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Please don't clog up the petition queue with stuff that is clearly not reimbursable.

That's why I'm posting here first. I don't want to bug CCP if its a lost cause.

So instead of bugging one guy who get's paid to handle your complaints and grievances, you decided to bug the entire forum-going playerbase (thousands of people).

Thanks.

One guy working has no choice but to read it before deciding it was a waste of time and discarding it.

That makes sense. Oh well, suck it up and keep on truckin'. I'm just happy I was on the way TO the PI, not coming back with a full load!

Thanks for all the replies everybody! Big smile

Throw another power supply in it. Cheap enough, and if it happens again, you'll know its a problem with the mobo.

As far as a petition, they might help ya this one time. Probably not, but a respectfully written petition might work out for you.

I had a cheapo power strip do this to me a while back as well.

Could be memory too. Much easier to test your memory than replacing the other stuff first. Lots of problems with computers are memory related issues.

it can be everything... my experience working in the it branch told me most of the time it is the power supply.

Never had any power supply problems, has always been memory issues. Run Memtest, find the bad memory module, replace it, problems solved. That's been my experience anyway.

I logged off in a Scorpion deep in null outside a force field I didn't have the password for. I wanted to get to sleep and thought "**** it" Im not going 25 jumps home. So I logged on 24 hours later and there is my Scorpion sitting nice in view of the POS force field... pretty close to where I left it....
