It is funny that the new font is what will kill Eve for a lot of people. I wonder if it will be more than 18 months or Incarna.

L.o.l. at all these posts..

*sigh

Just adding wind to the fire here.. option to change back to the old font please (and thank you) Blink

One thing that intimidates me is not being able to understand what I should be able to understand - or at least, people telling me what I can or cannot understand.

I really don't understand how you can not read the new font compared to the old one. At all. But I'm fine with giving the option to toggle between the two.

Let's have a look at the new font, shall we..
http://i.imgur.com/M8T1N.jpg

A) The inconsistency
- the UI scaling gets completely redundant, since the size of texts are different and thus scale a hell of a lot different too
- rightclick menu is really really small, so is chatbox texts (the latter can be fixed by A+'ing, the first can't)
- names of locations and players are always huge, from local, to the scanner, to the market, to the overview
- number descriptions (isk in market, distance in scanner, velocity/distance in overview) is always huge
- the Route-window is really MASSIVE
- tab-names (chatbox names, tabs in market, overview, scanner etc) is always small
- drone names are big

TL;DR = this could be fixed by having a better consistency in the 'everyday text'. Overview text, market text, rightclick menu, drone names, chatbox texts, tab text etc could be similar size by default, that way when we scale things up/down, the game won't be broken by massive or tiny vital texts.

B) The wide space
- this is purely related to the font, try scale chatbox text up/down, some "smaller" texts are actually wider than the bigger size
- the overview, market, scanner etc suffers primarily by this, their text would not be so massive if it wasn't so wide/space'd texts

C) What is good then?
- the intention from CCP to scale things up/down is quite good, especially considering how things develop with higher resolutions, playing on a TV, helping players with visual impair etc

I.e. these changes were made with a good intention, and the idea behind it wasn't bad. The execution and testing of it was. The current state is completely gamebreaking and should never have been released in the first place. Scaling and options is nice and user-friendly, this is a customer service we would and should appreciate. But how CCP can release this is really beyond me.

I'm not sure how they want me to appreciate our new ships, the nebula etc, when my overview takes a third of my screen by just (barely) showing the vital information I need in combat? When the rightclick menu is so small I can barely read it, just because I scaled things down so I'd be able to read market/overview - am I not supposed to be able to use rightclick menu and overview same time, is that a new challenge mode put in EVE?

Right now I am wondering if CCP just want me to farm lv4 missions in highsec (but not looting obviously, since the market is eating up all space too so selling loot will be a pain - obviously lv4's will have the added benefit of me not having to buy much PvP ships either so I can focus on killing NPCs). Then I don't have to worry about the overview and rightclick menus much either.

What size monitor are you using?
I'm using a 19" monitor and its way worse than that screen shot for me.

I said earlier on, looks like CCP hasn't tested it on different screen resolutions/sizes.

Probably so, but i have better things to do than download the 4 gig sisi client and to then spend my free time bug testing.
We pay CCP for that.

EDIT: However, i did download it a couple of days to test ride the new bc and to view the new scenery, but i do not download it for each expansion to test for bugs.

As the guy said below, we did tell CPP it was broke though i posted about it yesterday.

We did, they didn't listen. Check the test server feedback thread.

instead of making an entirely new font, only the problem character should of been addressed.

Doing this would of saved CCP costs on many levels.

1. Production cost of the font - have to pay someone to make it.
2. Incorporation cost of the font - implement the font within the existing windows.
3. OPPORTUNITY COSTS - what could of devs been doing for the expansion if they weren't dealing with the new fonts?

How much money would it of cost to change just a few problem characters?
Vs.
How much did it cost? How much will it cost fixing this?
vs.
What is this cost concept I speak of?

There is a difference between legibility and readability. Your confusing the two.

Who the **** cares? One is content to compare the old with the new and point fingers.

Why would it be hard to ******* FIX the 666 problems and be done with it? Did they lose the sources files for the fonts? seriously

As I posted in another thread, I'm not a fan of this font. It is easier to distinguish characters than it was with the other font. However this one doesn't fit with the style of EVE in my opinion. I'm no typography expert, but it seems to me that a cleaner and smoother font would have fit better.

This is just CCP's plan to get rid of poor and blind white trash rtards. New font looks nice on my 27" monitors, i only have 3 of them but I'll live.

No, the font is larger. Go look at ship names in your hangar, they wrap round before the old font did. This means that the length of a sentence is longer, so your eyes have to move further to read it. The fact that people are finding a larger font harder to read means there is a problem.

I hate the new font, I run at 1920 x 1080 and I've played with the UI scaling. One of the issues is that the font is actually too large, but if you reduce the UI scaling, it becomes unreadable. This sounds odd, but in your assets folder the old font had a reasonable gap between each line, which helped with reading. The new, larger font doesn't leave as much space between each line, so you get the wall of text effect and can't read as easily.

The new font is far better. It's easier to read even when the letters are smaller.

And most of all - the new font lets you easily read if it's a capital o or a zero.
