Haven't checked this thread in some time, apologies.

Looking good so far...

You should totally do a Widow next *cough* *cough*

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

AND, I'm back!

Kiwi summer here at the moment so its been hard to justify staying inside to build spaceships haha.
Plus I now have a new contract with Massey University NZ lecturing science fiction designShocked

Hope everyone has been well over the last two months. Lets get this Venture on the road again!

Wow this is some seriously impressive work and I'm sad I didn't click this link sooner! Keep up the great work m8.

I wear my goggles at night.

For my next trick, I've hit a snag and finally coughed up a bit of $$!

I present to you the toughest most badass little foam cutter in the entire world:

The Proxxon Thermocut 230/E

This was one of the few tools used by the modelmaking team on The Hobbit trilogy all day long and we fed all sorts of foam through this thing, mostly polystyrene as that is one of the core products used on set.
Its tough, we had only one and it lasted 4 years of everyday abuse plus the one spool of wire that comes with it was the only one we ever used. It must have like 20 meters of wire on it but we never ran out on the production.

We even made a jig so that we could feed 2400mm long sheets through it and it cut with ease haha

These are only $95 USD from amazon and is an absolute bargain for what you get.

On the other end of the spectrum I have recently started work with Massey University in Wellington, they have a couple of really nice machines too.
If you have a few more dollars lying around, check out Manix hot wire cutters.
Manix foam cutter

They are like the luxury option, Id love to own one myself but are much to expensive for me to afford at the moment.

Its finally here :D

My new hot wire foam cutter.

So now I can begin working on the structure that the turret sits on, and finishing off the harvester.

Ore cans, Ill make a really nice highly detailed version of this that will hopefully be reversible so then I can mould and cast 6 of them cutting down a lot of work.

Snag!!

The American way of doing electrical things is safer?? Lol?
You run things at 115v where we run things at 240v. Had to save a few more pennies and buy a step-down voltage transformer. It's all up and running now and set to burn! (In a very controlled precise manner haha)

Actually, it's the other way around. Higher voltage means lower amperage. And it's the amperage that kills, not the voltage. The reason 10,000V tasers don't normally kill is that the amperage is low. You're technically making your workplace more hazardous by using American electric current standards.

Therefore 230V/240V is safer than 115V/120V based on amperage being more dangerous. The math is as follows:

P = I*V
Power (P) = Current (I) * Voltage (V)
Watts = Amps * Volts

So in order to get the same Power (Wattage) with both systems, you need twice the Amperage.

*note: using 120V/240V for the example as it's cleaner, easier math. Also typical wattage in the USA is approximately 15A. Again, a round number so we'll use it too.

120V wrote:

P = 15 Amps * 120 Volts
P = 1,800 Watts

240V wrote:

1,800 Watts = A * 240 Volts
A = 1,800 Watts / 240 Volts
A = 7.5 Amps

Yeah I heard about that. Tough im pretty sure your homemade version would look 1000% better than any store bought.

UPDATE

Unfortunately this is non-eve related, but fortunately its fcuking cool!

In NZ we have this competition which was started quite a few years ago to make am entire 7 minute long film in the span of 48 hours over a weekend.

I have entered in the competition the last 4 years in a row and this time was asked to take a role of Art Director for a very large one!

We had a crew of about 50 people and the prep time has taken up my last couple weeks organizing everything I could beforehand.

I cant show the current film but what I can show in my last two attempts.

48 Hour film festival

Film one in the puppet trilogy
Dust Boot - Not One Tear

Second
Dust Boot - Sleep Shepherds

The third I will show in due course when the rules allow! $50,000 real like ISK is up for grabs!

This thread is not dead!

Just to let people know I am still constructing my Venture! In a twist of pure awesomeness I'm now thinking that to keep it fresh and up to date I will now finish the colour scheme in that of the recently announced T2 variant, the Prospect.

I just need to extract a 3d model to get the shapes and sizes and we are off!

I have also been super busy modelling gold mining equipment for a series of dioramas in a museum, Links to those models below.

Good to hear about the updates.

Will the cliffside latest (non-eve related) diorama have actual running water?

If a fish weighs 1 Kilogram plus half its own weight, how much does it weigh? (It's not 1.5kg btw)
