I actually expected this to be a troll thread when I first saw it.

Now that curiosity has gotten the better of me, I'm not regretting clicking on the link.

FaithInHumanity == FaithInHumanity++

That is all.

EDIT: Actually, I lied.

Anyway, dear reader, if you've skipped to the last couple pages and just ran into the wall of crazy, head on over to Get Well Gamers and make a donation, if you can. Cash, games, old system you aren't using, anything is good. Fanfest's charity dinner is going to support them, and from my own personal experiences, those donations go to help kids who really need it. Thanks!

Great point, back on topic. If you're planning to go to Fanfest, hit up the charity dinner too. It's for an awesome cause that OP (me) has personally seen the benefits of.

If you can't, consider making a donation to said charity. Link is in the thread above. They accept used games, systems, periphs like controllers and headsets, or just plain ol' cash. Even a UK branch for our tea-drinking pals!

Oh dear. That was quite the cleanup.

Quote:

2. Be respectful toward others at all times. Please refer to the below forum rules on why certain posts were deleted or edited.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

3. Ranting is prohibited.

A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counterproductive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

8. Posting of personal information is prohibited.

The posting of personal information including but not limited to contact numbers, email addresses, account names and passwords, home addresses and real life names is strictly prohibited. CCP respect the right of our players to privacy, and will not tolerate the divulging of real life personal details.

22. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

31. Rumor mongering is prohibited.

Rumor threads and posts which are based off no actual solid information and are designed to either troll or annoy other users will be locked and removed. These kinds of threads and posts are detrimental to the wellbeing and spirit of the EVE Online Community, and can create undue panic among forum users, as well as adding to the workload of our moderators.

Before the accusations of bias and censorship come out, I should mention this thread is being specifically brought to CCP's attention for greater scrutiny, particularly because of the sweeping moderation action.

Please stay on topic, civil, and constructive. If you believe someone is trolling, manipulating, breaking rules, or otherwise taking advantage of the community, please report the post or submit a support ticket. Starting a flamewar is not the answer.

I was sorry to see the topic diluted, but ISD put us back on track!

Thanks for getting this group out there, LAP. I've got an old Wii laying around, I'll try to see if they'll accept that.

Massive props.

I just donated $50 after getting a chance to read the website. Looks like a great cause.

I gave my old collection of games and systems atari through ps2 to family years ago because they said they'd use them, then they promptly put in basement. Let's see if I can pry them back from their claws for a good cause...

This looks pretty cool.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Because the dinner raises money for the kids in hospital is why I bought tickets for the dinner on my last two trips to Iceland and is the reason I am doing it again this year.

The food is kinda fancy for my tastes and it seems odd to put so little on a huge plate. I would be happy with just a steak and a beer, but you do get to meet some interesting people at your table as well.

Awesome, hope you have fun again this year as well! I had my share of fancy dinners in the military, and it is kind of strange.

If we ever link up at an EVE meetup, we'll head out for that steak and beer, my treat. I plan to hit up Fanfest next year, in fact (passport updates take absolutely forever to process, so no 2014 trip).

Hot damn...steak and beer on the offering!!! Shocked

Ah military dining in nights! I remember once spilling port down my No.1's. Mother of god I was in trouble for that. Although, I do remember a distinct lack of food on my plate come to think of it....

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

I was looking into Fanfest this year, and I noticed the Charity dinner is in benefit of Get Well Gamers. GWG is a charity that donates video games, and game systems to children's hospitals.

I'm a nurse who works for a children's hospital, who has received video game systems from GWG. It doesn't seem like a lot to me and you, but those video games mean the world to the kids on my ward. Some of them have extremely painful, awful medical conditions that no kid should face. Some are terminal, and don't have long for this world. The treatments they face are sometimes worse than the disease itself. Just being able to sit down with "my" kids, forget everything, and just play Mario Kart for a few hours means a lot.

We're a charity hospital. There's no way we could budget for those games. Most of the families there have no way to budget a luxury like a PS3. Healthcare is expensive, and pediatrics even more so.

I sent CCP a personal thank you, and now I'd like to thank the community. Sure, we're a bunch of dysfunctional, arguing neckbeards (and neckbeardettes), but damnit, we can do some good in the world.

Thank you again CCP, and thanks, EVE players. You've got an old nurse in tears over this, and I'm proud to say I'm a member of the EVE community.

Perhaps you should be setting an example not spend the money on a drunk roam to Iceland, and donate it instead?

The EVE crowd is a weird one.

They will shake your hand and whisper sweet words into your ear while they stab you in the back with a big damn knife and then leave you to die while running away with everything you owned. Then they will donate that everything to charity (as we've seen from Plex4Good).

Keep up being bad in this very special way!

That's because most of us can separate game play from RL. Cool

Kind of weak, but this is an example of the logical fallacy "False dichotomy". The fallacy of false dichotomy is committed when the arguer claims that his conclusion is one of only two options, when in fact there are other possibilities.

There's also a little bit of "Appeal to Social Standing" in there.

I try not to argue against logical fallacies, it's pointless. Just point em out and move on.

While I seriously don't like CODE or most of those associated with them (or other griefers), I must say I have found a bit of respect for the person behind LAF. I was really touched by the story of the boy who had to have heart surgery and died as my 5yr old niece had to go through heart surgery last week. She made it through just fine but it was relatively minor (if you can really call any kind of heart surgery on a 5yr old minor). But thank you for bringing more info on GWG to the attention of the Eve community. I plan on donating a bunch of games that I have sitting in a drawer collecting dust. And feel free to post more stories if you wouldn't mind... I love reading things like this. Take care.
