Title pretty much says it all.

I want to set up my windows where I like, the size I like, etc. Then export the settings so I can then import them and use for all characters.

I'm not looking forward to doing this 10+ times.....

Yeah, making copies of the _user_ and _char_ files has been how I've done it for years.

Just always make backups of your files before you touch them. Preferably weekly or monthly. I stuff all of mine into a ZIP or 7Z file in the same folder named after the date.

The API keys I'm getting from EvE are not matching up to the files. :(

And I don't see enough core_user_apikeys.dat files but I do see small core_user__.dat file.

I'm logging in every toon and trying to move different windows around for each to see if this forces files to be created.

Any other suggestions?

Ok, I figured this out....

First off, the website linked above is no longer accurate as CCP has changed the API keys. So finding the core_user info is a bit harder. From what i can tell the core_user_longnumber.dat is a file for the whole account.

Here's what I suggest to do:

A1) If you have been using evemon for a long time and keeping the backup files go look for a file from around Jan 2010 or older. Edit the file with notepad and look for the Account Details block and look for the UserID. This is the number you will need for core_user_UserIdNumber.dat. Also under that block should be each of the characters on that account. The long number needed for the core_char_longnumber.dat is found just below each name. Copy the information to a seperate notepad.

A2) Log into the game and set up the UI for one character on one account and then log out. Don't forget to go into space and setup drone windows, scanners, cargo, etc. too. Then under the Local Settings\Application Data folder you will find the CCP\EVE\c_games_eve_tranquility folder tree (or d_ if you use a d drive, etc.). (Try using %appdata% in the address bar of your file explorer to get you to the top level). Inside c_games_eve_tranquility make a backup_settings folder and then copy the settings folder there for backup.

A3) Under the settings folder make a temp folder and copy the core_user and core_char files for the account/pilot you set up in A2 here. Working in this temp directory you can rename the core_user file by replacing the userid for each account you have and then copying it back to the settings folder. Do the same for the core_char file by replacing the long number for each character and then copying the file back to the settings folder.

An example with made up names:

I have 2 accounts acct1 and acct2 and I have Anna, Bob, Craig and David as my four pilots. I set up Anna from acct1 as my template. From my old evemon files I have determined the following:

acct1 : userid = 4657689
Anna longnum = 9786754324
Bob longnum = 6897467453

acct2 : userid = 2584532
Craig longnum = 5787464765
David longnum = 7637489647

So after I'm sure I've backed up everything I copy the following two files to my temp folder under settings:
core_user_4657689.dat
core_char_9786754324.dat

These are my working files. Remaining in the temp folder I now do the following:

I rename core_user_4657689.dat to core_user_2584532.dat and copy it back to the settings folder. This takes care of acct2.

I rename core_char_9786754324.dat to core_char_6897467453.dat to take care of Bob and copy it back to settings.
I then rename core_char_6897467453.dat to core_char_5787464765.dat for craig and copy it back to settings.
I take that file, rename it from core_char_5787464765.dat to core_char_7637489647.dat for David and copy it back to settings.

I'm now all good to go and log in and have fun. Any small tweeks can be made to each character now.

So what if you don't have old evemon files? Well, you get to log into every account, capture your portraits (should go to My Documents\EVE\capture\Portraits) and that will give you the longnumber for core_char_longnumber.dat.
While you are in the game on each account, you will need to look at the settings folder and see which core_user file is being updated (sort by date...). You can then write down the userid number for each account.
Once you have gone through each account to get your info then just follow A2 and A3 and the example above.

A side note... I'm not responsible if this doesn't work or if you don't follow directions. :) I've re-read this a couple times but I'm going from memory after doing it a couple hours ago (I've been busy playing!). Don't blame me if it all goes horribly wrong.

Good luck!

Bump - maybe CCP can use a little effort to put this into the *@%#$*# POS (and that's not going to require a Starbase charter) install scripts.
