PS3 had terrible GFX and a customer base that has the attention span of a goldfish. To top it all off I suspect they realized that the technology on a PS3 is in fact incapable of the kind of integration that they really envisioned between EVE and Dust.

My Goldfish took offense at that. he also said to point out that most Goldfish prefer CoD becasue of the fishy nature of the acronymn and a true fish with never play a game with a water challenged name like "DUST".

The coke head in marketing told them about some magazine article he stumbled upon saying that "consoles were the new thing" and although he didn't know what a console was that they better start throwing money at it right now!

So $1 million of development and $20 million of blow later, it turned out that FPS console shooters are as common as trailer parks in Mississippi and worth even less.

Maybe they should stop worrying about finding "the next big thing" and focus on putting more money into what has already proven to work (i.e. EvE)?

Best post ever,

What a waste of resources.

And pray tell, why is a waste of resources? And have you tried the game out or are you speaking from a perspective of one that believes that they know a game from a simple video?

Games that require specialized hardware haven't been successful for 15 years.

In the early to mid 90s every flight simulator required you to use a joystick, racing games had steering wheel controllers and you had headache-inducing shutter glasses for your 3d games - but that's an era that has been over for a long time.

These days any game that relies on the gimmick of specialized hardware to set itself apart from the competition will fail (and no kinect is not even remotely comparable).

I own a rift, let me tell this...

It is most definitely not a gimmick. It is a game changer for the industry, if not society.

Valkyrie is being co-published with Oculus VR. Can't wait!

Assets depreciate in value. Your car for example is not worth what you are paying or have already paid for it. All CCP did was adjust the numbers to fit the value of the assets and code is only as valuable as the amount of profit it can potentially generate.

Im still hoping they Make Dust 514 for the PC. I would certainly buy it and play regularly alongside Eve. But alas us PC Gamers are so neglected these last few years.

It could be any number of things - including the older incarna code base they worked on back in ... 2008 or so?

They set aside all that work to redesign for a new engine but that doesn't mean they removed the code work from assets.

The same with any other potential areas they worked on vs just this or that existing product.

This doesn't mean the code is gone, or lost, or will never have purpose. It means they removed it as an asset from the balance sheet. It's responsible accounting, and probably (definitely) not worth all this mindless speculation.

The only thing that comes to mind would be Carbon. I'm guessing none of their games now has a chance to use that piece of technology. Dust went to ps3, WiS in Eve is indefinitely sidelined, and WoD is on skeleton crew, and valkyrie won't need it either.

What is Carbon.

okay so the ambulation portion of Carbon is the writeoff?

Does anyone else feel like all these things are adding up to something?

-Community stagnation
-Very minor tweaks to the game for 3 years
-Major projects failing and being abandoned
-Huge losses being reported
-Key CCP developers leaving
-New competition in the space-sim / sandbox market

i.e.

Maybe CCP is going to be sold because of it's failures and precarious position in the market

You're an idiot.

  • The community is not stagnating
  • One major project is stagnating and one was abandoned more or less two years ago. That's pretty normal.
  • Huge losses aren't being reported.
  • One key CCP developer left. Everyone else is easily replaced. Actually pretty much so was he.
  • Yeah, no.
