Why isn't there a vertical carrier?

Come to think of it the only two "vertical" ships in EVE are the Nagflar and the Myrmidon. That is unless you want to consider the Obelisk the vertical carrier of the group. I also suppose a Catalyst could be a vertical, well horizontal ship instead of a "front to back" ship wich is the same from a design standpoint.

While I agree those ships are cool, its only because they are different.

Its all about where the engines are mounted since this is space. If this was real you would always want the main engines on the "rear" instead of the "edge" in order to navigate though any objects you may come across easier. its the reasons real world vehicles are long instead of wide, this just translates into game design.

If EVE was real the Nagflar probably would not exist. So while being cool because of being different, I prefer at least some grounding in reality.

Also while cosmetics will always play some role in ship choice, if your old enough of a player to fly a dread or carrier, your old enough to know its the stats that matter.

Because vertical ships are dumb and would never work from an engineering standpoint without sacrificing tons of efficiency/functionality.

Space is like jello, how would a vertical carrier not glide through jello better than a horizontal one?

Because drag. Water is not near as thick as jello. When was the last time you saw a vertical submarine?

Space has no density, and so there is no drag. So it doesn't matter what shape the ship is, that is why all the NASA ships have wingy bits sticking off them, because aerodynamics only matter on earth or on any earth like celestials, and not in space.

Having said that, going into warp could possibly produce some drag, although as there is no such thing as warp technology in real life, any supposed drag would be simply speculation.

Now you're getting creepy, stick to vertical supremacy here.

We took a novel horizontal approach to vertical space-submarines, the result can only be described as diagonal. -CCP on the Moa

The solution lies in stronger arrestor hooks. New pilot belt system may be required...

We don't have vertical super caps because they're all going to be removed from the game as a result of super cap balancing.

How did the most important thread on the forum fall off the first page, it must be dinsdale piranah's secret plan to finally destroy the CFC in action.

They tried it. It looked like a huge boner in the middle of a fleet fight.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.
