ATTENTION: This is NOT ok! Watered down textures!

Before
After

Disclaimer: Both images above were taken on the same computer with the same hardware and the same graphical settings the nature of which was configured to the highest setting.

The evidence indicates that CCP has watered down the textures of the character model and made the lighting more dare I say "anime" then "EVE is Real guis".

I am NOT ok with this!

The makeup also looks less solid and more airbrushy going alone with the "anime" look that CCP seems to be gearing towards.

You have to wait several hours before a new portrait gets a high resolution render from the render server. You know this, right?

The patch reset the character graphics.

If you haven't yet, reset them back to high in your ESC menu.

I did and the characters look 100 times better. Lighting has improved, skin tones are softer.

In all, I like it.

Looks like you widened the eyes a bit and changed their colour along with the makeup, then blamed CCP for it.

If I were to guess, the “before” is the cached image from the server render; the “after” image is your local render just after a recustomisation, and thus done at lower quality by your computer.

Wait for the server render to finish and then compare, because chances are that, no, they are not rendered by the same hardware.

This is normal. It happened to me before too. Every time you edit your character and take a new photo it appears really low quality with no AA. After a few days something happens and it will return to normal. Trust me!

Resetting Graphics settings results in only the hair rendering..

I am a floating hair cut...

Unfortunately no amount of graphic rendering will fix your avatar or your "I'm an omniscient spymaster who's infiltrated everywhere wololol" problem.

With the older build before today I had a much higher "local" render then I do now.

The lighting looks really glazy and the skin looks really ms paint and not so much omfg super real as it was before. I am right to be concerned...

How did I double post 3 posts down from my first one o_O

Second Edit: Why does it matter if the local render is worse? You only have to see it for a day or two. The final product will actually be improved!

Is this a function of the new expansion pack or not? I don't remember there being any noticeable difference in quality between my local render and the server side. This is the first time I ever had any "quality" issues with character creation in eve. Normally the only issues I encountered were texture glitches.

Some of the local renders work out better than others, that's my own experience.

I'm not sure about the lighting in the avatar edittor, but the lighting in CQ is far superior to pre-crucible and we actually have specularity now, the combination of which makes our characters seem a lot less flat.

I dunno where you're getting anime look from... Maybe if your character were placed in a more interesting pose you'd find it looking a bit less boring (protip).
