Successful Loner Play

Does anyone else find there are times you want to just quietly play alone? Perhaps I am alone in this, but while I enjoy others and group play, there are times I want to play on a secret alt or two, and just do my own thing, quietly building my private empire holdings going about my private business.

I have several accounts and each has 3 characters now. Not all are training skills. Some are simply scouts or sit in a trade hub to help me keep a finger on the market. I am loyal to the corp my mains belong to, but I just need time to myself at times. So I mine, do exploration, manufacturing and even some solo pvp when I can get it on terms I like.

Over time I find I am accumulating a lot of isk and a huge cache of assets.

Any others ever just play alone successfully?

I only play alone.

Why?

Because generally people suck.

That's been my unfortunate expereince with MMOs.

If you want to make money in EVE, I always found it was best to go at it alone. Not having to rely on anyone else or split profits is always a good thing.

Solo PVP can be fun, even if you often die horribly like I usually do.

EVE is a multiplayer game. It's like going to a bar or a club and sitting in the corner, then complaining when ladies want your company.

That being said, everytime I log in so many people want to chat that it's sometimes hard to get anything done. So, sometimes I will login a lesser known alt and advertise www.eve-bazaar.com, or I'll go gank someone, or I'll play mystery shopper (new recruit) in a highsec mining corp. Sadly, many have been noncompliant lately and losing orcas.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

No, it is like going to a metropolis and not always wanting to sit in the middle of a rave 23/7. Just because there are people around doesn't mean you need to interact with them.

Other players for me just add ambience... and targets.

I find myself unable to play solo. If my ship is on its own then I'm futzing around in chat or E-uni's mumble channels or jabber. I think I'd stop playing otherwise..

Interacting with a legitimate isk doubler is also another way to enjoy successful loner play.

This for me as well.

As an internet-spaceships sci-fi simulator there is ample room for solo play. That's what makes Eve so good... you can do what you want.

I experienced the older i get, the more other people just anoy me.. if you're leading them they always make you responsible and want to be entertained, if you are following them they want you to do stuff all the time... with others you just can't be yourself enough, its always a drawback... still i want to play against them, just doing pve would not be fun...

I think that is a part of it for me. I do not mean to seem as if I do not enjoy talking and playing with others, because I do. But I also enjoy not having to do what someone else wants to do, not having to respond to chit chat when I am not in the mood or have better things to do, and there is a part of me, that is independent and self-sufficient, and sometimes I just need some space. It is the best of all worlds to be able to do both, and to be able to decide for yourself which it will be when you log in.

No, the prominent feature in EVE is the persistent universe - multiplayer simply enriches it. And some people go to a bar or club simply to enjoy the music...

You are not alone, my friend. I think it's advisable for everyone to have a char set-up just for going OFP for a while. Let's you unwind a bit and run at your own pace for a change.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I do hope you're seeing someone for this. (Stay away from that kool-aid. There's a good lad...er...lass...like some lady spoke to you in a bar...like you've ever BEEN in a bar...)

ON TOPIC. Yes, playing alone is quite relaxing. Sometimes the hub bub of the large corp. pulls one in too many directions at once, and it gets to be like work.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.
