Why am I so awful at combat (and everything else)?

0 kills. 46 losses. That's what I have after 2, going on 3, months of playing. My legacy is crap and the peak amount of ISK I've EVER had in my wallet was 63 mil. Yeah. Hold the applause.

It's not my level of exposure to the game, because in the short amount of time I've been here I've had more vets help me than any other newbie I've ever known. I've probably had more donated to me than I have earned on my own, and I return nearly everything I've been given. I've yet to meet a single player as bad as me. Every person I've ever met has earned more in their first month than I have in my life. And don't tell me it's some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy of self-esteem either, because up until a couple weeks ago I was stupid enough to think that I was some sort of EVE savant in training. I'm just AWFUL. I'm easily the worst player I've ever met, without competiton.

No, this isn't a thread for me to bleed my heart and fish for reassurance and donations. I've been enough of a charity case already. I should have quit a long time ago but I won't let myself stop until I can feel like I've made up for my losses and been at least passable in my time here.

The question is: why do I suck so bad, at PvP and at everything? I can't even pose any kind of threat to the softest newbie flying a rookie ship. I don't PvP often, either; most of those losses come from my stupidity in other categories.

How can I boost my defense and start being at least self-sufficient in this game to the point where losing five ships on a weekly basis isn't that common? Any tips at all? Am I missing something or am I just as terrible as I think I am?

Are you in a corp by yourself? If so you should think about joining a corp with other people. They will be able to show you the ropes.

maybe you should try pvping with other people

My suggestion is join FW. Be it solo or preferably with a corp, more so look at my corp and join our public channel, if you get in il be more then happy to provide you information and tips to improve your gameplay.

FW is pretty easy to understand and its , to my knowledge, the only pvp activity where you can trully sustain yourself with ease WHILE you pvp. Making money here is easy, learning to pew is better then anywhere else.

Try it , you got nothing to lose but gain.

I see you've been roaming around low-sec Metro, which is a pretty tough place to learn to PvP. I've been roaming that area for the past year and even with the systems memorized, safe spots bookmarked, UI set up properly, knowledge of local corps and pilots and booster alts set orange, it still sometimes takes all my concentration to avoid getting suddenly ganked.

I also think you would be best-off joining a FW corp that bases in the area, that would give you access to the accumulated knowledge of more experienced pilots to give you a major leg up. The LP you earn will pay for ships, and the rest is just about going out and getting used to how all the mechanics work. knowledge is power, yo

No, I'm in a corp, and a successful one, at that. All of my corpmates have made plenty of ISK. I'm just really bad and to be honest, I feel guilty that I'm in a corp that I know I could do nothing but drag down. My friend insisted on me joining though.

Solo is verry hard... most people have high implants are booster alts supporting them, making true solo dam.near impossable. Trust me i solo fw lose more then i win. If your flying true solo picking targets is verry important. Most pilots flying t2 will.most likely have high grade implants or bosting alts. If you in t1 take on other t1 ships but know the limits of the ship that you are.flying

I think it is because you fight in active tank and/or ventures. Or mixing tanks. Or not even flying a ship that is fully fit.

Someone should check your fits before you fly.

Checking on your killboard I'm going to guess that the reason you keep on dying is you engage targets that you have a low chance of killing. You do not engage a trasher in an AC rifter (HINT: go under his guns) if you do not know what you are doing. Other things include fighting a legion or any af's in a rifter and fighting cruiser blobs in a rifter. Engage ships that are in your weight class namely other t1 frigs. Also fill up your up your rig slots and if you're armor tanking pick either buffer or active not both. Since you like to brawl alot judging by your setup always fit scram and web. Prop mod can be AB(maximum brawling) or MWD(kiters plz go).

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

This ^

My first successful kills were with a group that took me in and started teaching me the PvP ropes. As said, solo is hard. And btw, after a year of playing I still loose ships to being jumped and not in the right fit. Personally I enjoy flying with others as it is a rewarding experience. Also said was make sure you have someone check your fits because it is there you will learn a lot about fitting your ships for the right task. As said, one year going and still learning. This is a game of endless possibilities. Never give up.

Never.

Have any of you met someone who has done worse than me? Even just one? It's serious question. I've yet to meet someone my age, or hell, even a month younger who has done as terrible as I have. And I've been looking. Am I as exceptionally bad as I think I am or is this somewhat common? Completely serious here.

Yes. But I won't shame them by naming them. A lot of newbros are in FW though. So they learn while flying with a more experienced pilot. It's very easy to get ahold of the basics and start winning solo fights once you have someone that can run you through hypotheticals and fits. (IE. should I take this fight against a Kestrel in a Merlin?)

I really recommend getting into a FW corp like many people here suggested. Sit in novice plexes with your frigates and you'll get plenty of 1v1 fights against opponents who will be unlinked (contrary to popular belief). Once you gain experience, move up into destroyers and smalls, and cruisers and mediums. FW is good because it limits your engagement profile and you can have nice little excluded battles.

Join FW. Pay attention to ship fits, fly with other people (join an FW fleet if you think you need to). If you're not getting out of your current corp what you think you need to succeed then your current corp is failing you. Get out.

And quit leeching off other players. Earning money here isn't that difficult, and fitting cheap-fit frigates to kill or die really isn't that expensive.
