No, they didn't.

How do you explain so much money being spent on Dust and it coming out the way it did? You really believe the main operation is making video games? Ha!

Like I said earlier, just you watch. Like the US military covering up UFO's, this thread will disappear.

Not to imply that Erotica 1 is right, but:
1. Create a distributed super-computer by creating an MMO that encourages people to leave the client running, e.g afk cloaking.
2. ???
3. Conquer the world!

Why do you think they aren't fixing the memory leaks?

I'm almost certain it's their mobile project. They have a mobile team and we have almost no news on what they are doing. Eve mobile might be the 5th project, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have a bigger mobile project underway.

Could be their mobile app, or PSP Dust thing they mentioned. Either way, it's stupid that they're splitting their resources so many ways. Eve has stabilized, but isn't really growing, Dust is a steaming pile, and the other two we know of aren't released. Where is their money coming from?

Eve, obviously. Eve is carrying the cost of development for 5 projects now? What is wrong with you people? Can anybody at CCP justify this stupidity? I mean ffs. At least wait until Dust is carrying it's own bloody weight, or wait until one of your other games is released.

Actually that's not how it works. They add more projects because you need to diversify. You can not, as a game company, relay soley on a single game. This is how companies grow. They add more products and branch out. The money comes form eve yes, but then it also comes from merch, licensing, and whatever white-wolf cash flows in too. So basicly what you are saying is "Hey ford, your model A is good enough, no need to make anything else thanks." or "hey apple, your computers are great, no need to improve them or take some of your money to make new products" EvE is there main product, but if eve were to die tomorrow, so would CCP. CCP has made profit since 2007 (at least started making money), so if they saved a lot of it, they should have a good size nest egg to expand. Dust is not a failure yet, as you can look at the money and have no way of knowing if its from dust or what. They spent over 25m in RnD and Ads. Ad's was prolyl for Dust.

So we won't know if Dust was a failure for a few more years, because lets face it, new things can lose money. And i'm sure ccp has some budgeted for dust in case of a loss.

But back to my point, they need new products for new and more money to make more products and improve current ones. This is how business works.

There 5th is either mobile, or licensing.

I'm voting for a homeworld style RTS using eve assets. I'd never play this game again though.

Well, they had one game that could be considered successful (Eve)
One that flopped (Dust)
One that is an abortion (WoD)
and one that looks promising (Valkyrie)

Why would they start a 5th project? They're literally just burning money.

Unless the 5th project is recoding Eve from the ground up and making it multithreaded.
That would be cool.

Well let's look at it like this.

1. EVE: Classic space MMORPG that continues to rise in popularity even after 10 years.
2. DUST: If it was not connected to EVE it would be a total flop.
3. World of Darkness: Does this even still exist?
4. EVE Valkyrie: Promising arcadey space fighter game. Should do really well if CCP learns from mistakes they made with DUST
5. The EVE Online TV show?

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

It'll be a forum-driven RTS replacement for PI called Complain & Conquer.

I'd love to see the fifth installment as the EVE TV show. That way they would not be wasting money on another game, and actually have something that could be out and complete MUCH sooner. I'm glad to see they slimmed down the WoD team and hopefully killed off twilight online (erm I mean WoD) so the money can better be invested in EVE, and in their new IP Valkyrie.

Reason why VtM is so long in doing lies in it's tabletop RPG roots.

How are you going to do an interesting computer RPG from agame that is mainly based on social interaction and coming to terms with your cursed existence while longing to see the daylight for one last time ?
But then again you can play Sabbat and "live like you were ment to" as suprime undead being among the flock of cows.

So technically making on MMORPG is easy but how you turn it into something that isn't a wow/EQ clone and keeps players interested is quite another thing.
Oh and the we musn't forget the FTP crowd so it can't have subscriptions and if you release it as an FTP how large a whineage will start in EVE ?

But to stay on topic I would bet on 5) being incarna to have an actual multiplayer component and once they have networking code done right they can use that on VtM as well.

You misunderstand me. I am not suggesting that they shouldn't be making new games, but even the biggest games companies (EA, Blizzard, Bioware etc, so we're talking huge great companies, not CCP) only run one or two development projects at a time. That's sensible. Also, these companies make games that they don't maintain indefinitely, where-as CCP is saying they want all their games to be 'forever', like Eve.

So, CCP has Dust, which can\t possibly be pulling it's weight financially yet (and it's only going to get worse if it doesn't get ported to PS4 or PC), WoD which isn't done, Valkyrie which isn't done and a fifth project. And each of these games will come with maintenance development costs once they're finished because of CCP's development ethos. All of these projects are being carried by Eve. What they should be doing is concentrating on getting ONE other project that carries it's weight and contributes enough to create a new project AFTER that one.

Otherwise this is a disaster waiting to happen.

Danger Game and Danger Game In Space (EVE Online), were the best things they could think of, beside of that... MEH..

Or they will stick with the Danger Game altitude, or they will throw money into the gutter.
