How to use Suspect Flag

So, I see some blinky yellow suspect in a ship outside station that I can rip to shreds -yes, unless they redock and get some massive pvp monster to squat me... but back to it. I see them flashing yellow skull, I can shoot them...

will I get suspect flagged and shootable by anyone
will friends of guy with suspect flag I attack be able to attack me

I'm not sure entirely of the mechanics and what-not of the Suspect Flag, help appreciated -other than 'just shoot them and find out' -main doesn't have much sec status to burn trying.

If you shoot someone with a suspect flag:

- You cannot dock or use stargates for 60 seconds
- The suspect can shoot any ship (including escape capsules) you are in legally for 5 minutes
- Anyone that provides them active remote assistance (remote sensor boosts, remote repairs, remote ECCM etc) will become suspect flagged
- Anyone that provides them passive remote assistance (warfare links) can do so without consequences.

Your best bet is to ship scan them first. Then, assess whether you can one-shot them in a Tornado (remember, they WILL have off-grid boosts). If you can, undock your Tornado, blap them, then get the hell out of there to a safe spot and spend five minutes warping from safe to safe.

Expect them to have increased locking range, movement speed and EWAR range from their off-grid booster too.

You know that every suspect in busy highsec is a trap. Avoiding an obvious trap is not being 'risk adverse' any more than not autopiloting your Slave set through highsec in a Leopard is.

I fell for this trap... engaged a flashy yellow that was jammed on the station, thinking they were AFK...

They weren't, he docked, repaired, undocked... and I blew up :)

But I had a good chat with the guy who trapped me and got some good tips and tricks from him...

There is no such thing as a fair fight...

If your fighting fair you have automatically put yourself at a disadvantage.

No you won't be suspect flagged.
No not everyone will be able to shoot at you.
No his friends won't be able to just shoot you,

You get a weapons timer, meaning you can't dock or use stargates for 60 seconds for as long as you are engaging in pewpew.
You and the yellow flashy dude both get a 'limited engagement timer' meaning you and the fellow you are shooting can attack each other without security penalties, and without concord interfering.

If anyone in a logi decides to help out, either you or the suspect player, they inherit the flags of the person they are helping (suspect, criminal, weapons ...)

In short, seeing someone suspect near a starbase usually means it is a trap. Unless you are sure you can insta kill them or whatever, don't be a hero and start the pewpew without thinking.

Flag Inheritance

When remotely assisting another player, you will inherit most of their flags, except for the Suspect, Criminal, and Limited Engagement Timers. You will instead gain the timers they have with the current time remaining on them, unless you already have an identical timer with time left on them.

Think that is what I mean no?

No, you meant Limited Engagement Timers but they are not inheritted.

It could be fun if they were, someone engages a suspect, I rep suspect and get to shoot the one engaging him for free...
I'd fit a small rep on anything that has a spare hislot if it was the case.

Oh Shocked

The "You will instead gain the timers they have with the current time remaining on them" got me confused then.

The logi inherits everything but the limited engagement flag (PVE, PVP, suspect, criminal (if there is one on the target ie concord in hisec), weapons flag aka cannot dock). If you shoot the logi (who is now a suspect), then a limited engagement starts, meaning you can continue to shoot him and he can shoot you back. A logi cannot get the right to shoot you merely by repping a target, you have to attack him first.

So, the baiter with the suspect flag can dock at any time, get new ship and engage...

bait can have off grid warfare links boosting them -I've seen a few command ships floating afk 5k off station on scan but not visible. After so much time I'd've thought CCP would make warfare links only work on-grid... oh well.

I shoot bait, warfare linker and others in gang are not flagged suspect even though what they are doing is aiding them as much as a logi pilot... k

Basically, it's a trap not even worth trying to spring unless you've got 8 accounts in tornados to splat that vindicator fit with officer mods outside the station for 3 hours.

thanks

In the immortal words of my friend John E. Normus, "I always try. launch on that fool and roll the dice." Following that advice cost me a Jaguar recently, but I did learn a little more about station games for the low cost of 20mil isk.

If you engage the guy and he docks, GTFO immediately. He can't undock for at least 10s which is plenty of time for you to warp away. Warp around a bit until weapons timer is finished, then you can dock.

Station games, whether suspect or wartargets, are mostly about getting the other guy to shoot first. Whoever shoots first is locked out of the station and you have 60s to burn them. If you can't burn them in 60s then it is best, in my opinion, not to engage on the station. But if he can't kill you in 60s and you follow my advice above, then fire all weapons. Roll the dice.

One word of advice for suspect gamers: Don't play your games when RvB Ganked is forming up on Saturday. Poor Vindicator pilot. As I recall the reason he died is because a couple of the RvB pilots were ready on the undock and bumped him out of docking range. So if you have alts or friends, that is a useful tactic.

If you engage on a station and can't either, warp off/fly away when he docks, or last longer then the 50 odd seconds while your flag counts down after he docks/undocks, then you're flying the wrong ship.

well you could always scan down their booster, ship scan it (hope they are multi-boxing and not looking at the screen) and if they are all fit with command processors and links, drop a tornado on them and blap them :)
